I think this poll that a third of Americans think violence against the government can be justified might be overhyped. I mean, it is part of our American ideology that our government exists with the "consent of the governed." Our Declaration of Independence says when the gov't
impinges on our rights, becomes oppressive, we can replace it. This is part of American cultural history. I would be more concerned if it was a more specific question, but the general question is one that conforms to our founding principles.
And yes, if our government becomes a fascist authoritarian government with a cult leader who exploits racism and imprisons, even kills people based on their race, ethnicity, or country of origin, then we should resist that government.
If our elections become frauds like Russian elections, only allowing certain people to run, blocking large swathes of people from voting, well, then it's our job to resist them and replace them with a democracy, not a cult.
I think if they asked if violence was justified now, the numbers would be much smaller, though still alarmingly high among Republicans. But theoretically, our American history tells us we are obligated to take up arms against a dictatorship.
I mean, Germany was a democracy, Hitler was elected. And the Germans who went along to get along are condemned.

If you are ever tempted to excuse your ancestors' enslavement of Black people, do this first.

1. Get a drink: water, coffee, tea, wine, beer, gin, whatever appeals.
2. Sit quietly with your thoughts, perhaps walk around the block.
3. Delete your account.
When researching my 7th-great-grandfather, I found his contract for moving from Barbados to Rhode Island. The people included his wife, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, an indentured servant & 3 enslaved people. This was in 1648. One of them, named Mingo, ran away. Good for him.
He was for a time Solicitor General of Rhode Island colony. He also was an asshole. I can note his accomplishments and still hope Mingoe escaped completely and remained a free man. I will not excuse his conduct as being "of the time." Benjamin Lay was of that time & knew better

This reminds me of a rafting trip down the Deschutes River many, many years ago with friends from work. At the end of the 1st day, most of us had some cold symptoms, sore throat, runny nose, slight fever. But of course, no one packed cold medicine. So, as a lifelong forager... Image
I went foraging along the riverbank and in the surrounding trees. I had someone gather white willow bark and someone else gather mullein. I gathered yarrow myself as some might confuse it with hemlock. I inspected the gathered mullein to make sure no stray bits of other plants
were mixed in because I saw enough datura growing in a clearing to poison the entire planet with its neurotoxin. But some cottonwood bark got in by mistake. It's harmless but it can give you a hot flash similar to niacin. IT is good for fever.

But here's the thing...

Some of my worst accidents were incredibly stupid. For example, I was sitting on the couch reading a book and a picture nail came out, a picture fell on my head, and I got a concussion.

Another time, I was reading Fanshen, holding the page open with my pinky and dislocated it.
I was working, sitting in a chair that had a rung across it. I was wearing kitten heels that I hooked on the rung while I worked. My foot slipped in the shoe (The shoe did not come off.) and I broke my ankle. Yes, I broke my ankle sitting in a chair.
I was playing volleyball. I had a killer serve back then. I had just served 14 unreturned serves when on the 15th I cracked my wrist so badly the crowd could hear it break.

So, I got a review copy of a book in the mail today. I am going to type the text on the back cover, text that is supposed to make us want to read the book.

As the novel opens, Alexa, one of the protagonists, has high hopes when she secures a marketing job in New York.
But her Newfound freedom from living at home with her father is cut short when her estranged twin sister Beth shows up at the doorway of her tiny apartment after a long stint in a psychiatric setting.
Alexa too has spent time at the Weinstein Center, and as the reader is slowly clued in on why she was sent there in the first place the suspense deepens. As questions mount and secrets unfold revealing the dark shared history of the sisters, this page-turner picks up speed

I think Christian Walker is canny. He understands that racist America loves Black people who play to their assumptions about Black people. He's like Diamond & Silk, playing a fool so he will be admired by the GOP, the overly dramatic fool who fights for white supremacy.
Always remember, Black excellence terrifies white nationalists. Black foolishness endears itself because it props up the belief their privilege is the result of merit, not structural racism. Christian Walker reaffirms the idea of white supremacy and meritocracy with every word
Of course, Christian Walker harms Black people with his performance of a dumb, entitled, lazy Black man living off his father's work and calling it his own, but then, he's selfish and doesn't care about anything or anyone outside his me/mine bubble.

When I hear about the Big Lie, I remember it began with Bernie Sanders and his campaign claiming in 2016 that the primary was rigged. I don't forget that Elizabeth Warren agreed. It was not and sore losers claiming they lost because it was rigged is bad for democracy
But when has Bernie ever let democracy or the good of the country get in front of his ego? His machinations to have himself appointed the candidate by appealing to superdelegates after his campaign denounced them? Trump is just following Bernie's lead.
Then his supporters tried again in 2020, advancing a false rape allegation, coaching people to change their stories to back up the lies...all in hopes of getting Bernie to replace Biden as nominee.
