For the past few weeks, @AltNews has been working on stories related to hate speech and reaching out to social media platforms to deplatform dangerous individuals. Facebook has been the most unresponsive when it comes to taking action.
THREAD
1/n
We wrote to @Meta@bipchakr@Sunitapatnaik3 on December 6, 2021 about Bajrang Dal member Harish Ramkali who posts videos of demolishing Mazars. He also regularly posts videos where he accuses Muslims and Christians of running conversion rackets.
2/n
Our email was acknowledged. But we failed to get a response despite numerous follow-up emails. @metaindia did not suspend Harish Ramkali's account.
3/n
In the email about Ramkali, we also alerted Facebook about HJM leader Jeet Vashisth. He posts similar hateful content.
This is our email to which Facebook neither replied nor took any action against Jeet Vashisth.
5/n
We also wrote to Facebook about BJP supporter Sandeep Acharya who makes Hindutva songs that carry anti-Muslim hate speech in the lyrics.
6/n
Below is our email to Facebook.
Sandeep Acharaya's account was also not removed.
7/n
Sandeep also used to run a YouTube channel called 'Rudra Music' where he posted the same content. We wrote to @YouTubeIndia about the channel. Unlike Facebook, YouTube took down his channel.
8/n
We sent emails to FB and YouTube about Suresh Rajput who goes by "Hindu sher boy". He is a close aide of Yati Narsinghanad and posts hate speech and instigates violence against Muslims. FB removed some of his content, YouTube terminated his channel.
In fact, Rajput had made a new channel after his earlier YouTube channel was terminated. We informed YouTube again and his new channel was also banned.
10/n
YouTube has been more responsive and actively takes down hate speech once flagged. We recently alerted YouTube about the channel 'Swami Amritanad' that had uploaded Live videos of #HaridwarHateAssembly.
11/n
YouTube first added strikes on two videos uploaded by the channel and suspended posting its privileges for one week. The channel made a new channel during this time which led to the suspension of both.
12/n
.@AltNews is actively working to suspend dangerous accounts. I have made this thread to document social media companies' response to hate speech. It is also to document their (in this case, Facebook's) lack of response to hate speech. I will keep updating this thread.

Yati Narsinghanad disciple Suresh Rajput regularly posts hate speech videos targeting Muslims. @AltNews wrote to @Facebook following which few of his videos were taken down but the platform failed to terminate his profile. His videos gain lakhs and thousands of views.
THREAD 1/9
“We do progressive reviews and put restrictions on accounts when they violate. When the account meets the threshold to disable, we take final action,” was Facebook's response when questioned about its failure to deplatform Rajput.
2/9
While Facebook did not deem Rajput's account meeting the "threshold" to be disabled, there are videos of him referring to Muslims as "pigs", inciting violence and promoting their economic boycott, and terming Muslim women who protested against CAA as "prostitutes".
3/9
The GitHub account @sullideals was created on June 13. That same day, now-suspended Twitter account @sullideals shared several pictures of Muslim women. The user's bio carried the link to “Sulli Deals” on GitHub.
2/14
“Sulli Deals” became popular on July 4 when several women on Twitter found their pictures on the app. That same day @sdfrgt4rf bragged about creating the app. He shared screenshots of the app’s backend and source code, proving that he had access.
The past few days of tasteless communal reporting by mainstream media on violence against Muslims brings us to a story not being talked about enough - 10 people arrested in Ujjain for allegedly chanting 'Pakistan Zindabad'. NSA invoked against four.
THREAD
Videos of a Taziya function held a day before Muharram were reported by the media as 'proof' of the slogans being raised. The videos were picked up from social media and reported at face value. No verification.
The issue blew up after BJP MP leaders led by city chief Vivek Joshi met Ujjain SP and demanded that strict action should be taken against those who raised slogans of “Pakistan". He also lightly threw in "Taliban slogans" because why not?
To give a background - BJP leaders, including Mr Patra, alleged that Congress prepared a 'toolkit' to target BJP. The format of a genuine 6-page AICC research on Central Vista was poorly copied and its letterhead forged...
to create a 4-page 'Congress toolkit'. Now Twitter allows only four pictures to be shared per tweet. So most tweets from yday have shared four out of six pages of the genuine doc and four pages of the forged one.
.@Facebook recently removed 'false information' warning from a video shared by BJP's @himantabiswa. This led Biswa to further his false narrative. The tech giant claimed it doesn't fact-check politicians but the reality is that it does sometimes...when convenient.
THREAD (1/6)
Here's a fact-check warning placed on Congress leader Udit Raj's post. In fact, Facebook had also added a similar warning on a post by BJP's Tajinder Bagga. (2/6)
Facebook banned political ads in the run-up to US Presidential elections and has now extended the policy for at least a month keeping Georgia Senate runoffs in mind.
Will it mirror the policy ahead of WB polls, a state nine times more populated than Georgia?
