It’s #PortfolioDay!!
My name is Dhir Jakharia, an 18 year old wildlife photographer based in Kenya.
Here’s my story…
1/ As a child I had always dreamt of becoming a footballer. (Soccer) My passion for football was CRAZY; I spent hours and hours everyday playing around the house. I even used to dream about playing for a professional club one day.
2/ As I turned 16, it was time to decide. I did have an option to ‘try’ playing at a football school in the UK. However, after a lot of thinking, I decided not to do it.
It’s not like I ‘gave up’ on my dream, but I just realized that I was simply a very passionate football fan.
3/ Maybe becoming a footballer was not my thing, who knows ?🤷🏻♂️
I was obviously frustrated with everything because football was the only thing I had cared about growing up.
Suddenly, all of that passionate energy found a new home; wildlife photography!
4/ In 2019, I had visited Vietnam for holiday with my budget camera, i began taking photos of sceneries. I kinda liked taking photos.
Then as I came back to Kenya, I realized we have a lot of wildlife here. Therefore, I bought a budget lens and decided to try it out.
5/ And now of course, I have absolutely fallen in love with wildlife photography and made it my dream to pursue it as a career!
6/ I aspire to become one of the world’s greatest wildlife photographers to prove that you can always achieve what you want.
It does not matter whether you think it’s ‘for you’ or not. As long as you have the passion and hunger to succeed, you’ll make it!
7/
I feel like my goals with wildlife photography are very different from others.
Don’t get me wrong, I am ALL for wildlife conservation and I will always try to support conservation as I believe wildlife photographers are nothing without wildlife.
8/
However, I want to use my photography as a tool to prove that, with the right mindset, anyone can achieve their dreams!
