Just received from a South African friend of mine, who lives in the UK, but is back there visiting family at the moment:
"I see England omicron numbers are bad. We should implement the protocols they have here. No one complains, they all crack on. 1/3
1. No mask , no entry. If you're exempt you can't go in, someone else goes to the shop etc for you. 2. Everyone wears a mask, even children. 3. You HAVE TO sanitise your hands as you enter and exit everywhere and if you don't you are asked to turn back and do so. 2/3
Individual shops/toilets/banks. 4. Restricted numbers everywhere ie: only 4 people in a bank/post office at a time. 5. Your temp is taken too.... everywhere."
So if anyone is wondering why and how the SA Omicron surge has reduced so quickly, this is why... 3/3
Next instalment:
"Close SA but here move immediately with curfews etc. Ban parties. Beaches patrolled by police. Fines are super super high & it's a criminal offence not to wear a mask. Social distancing. Kids aged 3 wear masks. "
Not sure what she means by "Close SA..."
"Cameras record you as u enter airport to ensure u sanitise and mask and temp. So they have evidence coz they WILL prosecute"
