Like the taliban, the magaban is having a hard time ruling their tiny fiefdom. businessinsider.com/gettr-pro-trum…
Why do they want to kill something that is fake? I smell Aqua Velva and butthurt. npr.org/2022/01/12/107…
Someone tell Jr that media guy...Dad... is still president (wink wink) and that Rogan... with 9.5 million listeners... signed a $100 million dollar deal with Spotify that required censoring his shit... is about as main stream media as you can get. nytimes.com/2020/05/20/bus…
Jr...It was because of main stream media that Donald was elected. nytimes.com/2016/03/16/ups…
We can credit Donald and his Bannon-like sycophants with creating a vastly more efficient and monetized media universe that makes MORE money than the tradition news format does. 2017: cjr.org/analysis/breit…
For years people didn't realize that the dead air after traditional programming (which charged to run ads) made millions of dollars for informercial hucksters. The show was the ad. Trump gets it: Media should Sell sell sell. Content? The Sell of Course. theatlantic.com/technology/arc…
TV news was a requirement of getting an FCC license. The idea of making money on news was...well unthinkable. Newspapers were the common man's voice. Now with the traditional ad driven media crumbling there really is no "traditional" media. insider.com/inside-the-ame…
Trump like MBS, and Jeff Bezos etc believes that by owning the media you can effect change. I don't know if that works in the long run, People seek out their comfort zone wether its Twitch or The London Sunday Times. Note Google, FB etc is not on this list:investopedia.com/stock-analysis…
Based on a consistent history, Trump's new media venture has every indication of being a disaster. More of a pump and dump than a content play. But that's OK Donny will line his pockets and move on to the next mark. washingtonpost.com/technology/202…
RYP Trivia: Bud Paxson a pioneer of media wanted to hire me to build out the Travel Channel. When I gave him a budget he said "Oh, I though we could just scroll words from your books to music. He flipped it to Discovery and I started shooting "the World's Most Dangerous Places"
My deal was I go anywhere and shoot anything and you run it. Not a bad deal for an author and a marketing guy who had never shot a doc in his life. The results of that series were unique, possibly to this day. Took balls to run it too.
This is my famous Liberia episode referred to. Back when cable TV gave no fucks. I don't know that Discovery viewers thought that dirty wars would come right into their living rooms. I made sure they did.
What's my point. The media should be about content, not political friction, opinions, advertisers or even "likes". It should be stuff that makes our world understandable, changeable and accountable. Let's hope there is a trend towards real journalism and away from arguetainment.
