Most working scientists don’t know they live in a dark age. Their work doesn’t run afoul of power in any major way. Most are good people. To them, the corruption looks like red tape. The truth-concessions feel small and normal. The grant game trains them to lie and rationalize.
The real scientists and doctors are the few who can’t help but remain scientific even when they do run up against money and power—they are stigmatized to the fringe, making it easy to mistake them for cranks—because the fringe is full of cranks in every age, dark or enlightened.
Validate the consensus and you can live and earn in peace. Use science to unmask the consensus and you’ll be banished to the fringe. You’ll have to earn in new—often public—ways. Then they’ll dismiss you as fringe grifter—no matter your accomplishments

This is not how anything is supposed to work. Scientists and doctors shouldn’t be going to the public. That’s not a reliable method.
