We attempted the ambitious task of summarizing, categorizing & making (some) sense out of the literature - from 1931 to 2021 - on *if* and *how* the hippocampal formation encode spatial goals.

Different brain regions preferentially support different types of navigation - so goals are likely not represented similarly when using different navigation strategies!
