🚨🚨 Mark Drakeford - 'What the actual figures show ...is that the measures we took in Wales were both necessary and effective;

FACT CHECK

➡️ No clear evidence restrictions in Wales led to better outcomes than parts of England

I explain the numbers 👇👇

You can see the clip of Mark Drakeford claiming restrictions in the devolved nations were effective here.
This is him explaining the data in the slide referred too. Disingenuous to miss out key parts of the data.
My conclusion…

If Mark Drakeford puts up a slide at any of his briefings, treat it with caution for two reasons. He is clearly out of his depth in interpreting data and has repeatedly got things wrong.

🚨🚨 Breaking - Mark Drakeford confirms imminent inclusion of booster requirement to be eligible for a Covid Pass in Wales

➡️ Despite worldwide evidence that highly vaccinated populations seeing rapid spread of Covid - he is ignoring the science

➡️ Power and control not health
Bremen in Germany has the highest vaccination rate and the hardest hit by Omicron.
France have some of the toughest restrictions, even banning people from travelling in from the UK and have massive cases.

🚨🚨 Metro - Daily Covid deaths hit 11-month high as nearly 400 people die

FACT CHECK

➡️ Current seven day average of deaths by when they occur is around 181.

The 400 relates to the day reported including a backlog

💥 Headline misleading ❌❌
We are seeing an increase in the number of people dying within 28 days of a positive test but with Omicron this metric is becoming less reliable.

Over the past 28 days there have 3.8 million positive tests and more will be dying with Covid and not because of it.
At the extreme, if 100% of the population had a +ve test in the past 28 days, every death that occurs for whatever reason would be included.

More people are entering hospital with Covid but not because of it and some will die. This does not necessarily mean Covid the reason.

🚨🚨 UK is past the peak in cases this winter with cases in all 4 nations falling.

➡️ Deaths rising for those with a +ve test. It is likely an increasing number will be with Covid but not due to it.

➡️ Cases down 18% week on week in the UK as a whole
Patients with Covid on ventilators in England continue to fall
The majority of patients in critical care in England are for non Covid reasons

🚨🚨 Vaccines Minister @maggie_erewash - ‘The majority of people in hospital with this virus are unvaccinated’

FACT CHECK

➡️ According to latest UKHSA data, 41% of people admitted to hospital with Covid unvaccinated, 36% for adults only

❌❌

💥 Worrying she not on the facts
Data available on page 39 of the latest UKHSA report -> assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
This thread covers quite a lot of misinformation put out over the media in the past month from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky from presenters and contributors as well as Government ministers.

🚨🚨 ‘In Cardiff... We have got something like 42 ventilated patients with Covid and they are invariably young... and unvaccinated’

FACT CHECK

➡️ 35 in whole of Wales with Covid on a ventilator ❌

➡️ 8 in Cardiff and Vale regardless of vaccine status

This was on BBC News
Stats available from the Welsh Government here -> statswales.gov.wales/Catalogue/Heal…

This is blatant misinformation. In England average age of unvaccinated in ICU is 50 years old, so I would like to know what is classed as ‘young’ although most of what was said was inaccurate anyway
@thatjennyrees you may want to get some of the data team to fact check what’s going on air.

Some context to this tweet talking of admissions with Covid at record levels in children.

We have seen rises in cases of Covid - but the total number of children in hospital (regardless of reason) is lower than 3 weeks ago.

Context severely lacking in this thread.
Trends here in this chart Image
My recent blog explains the numbers - I need to update it this week with the latest week data.

The situation not changed much - as illustrated in chart in previous tweet.
