"They’ll subpoena everything under the sun."

Ridiculous, but this is what I told Reuters would happen if the GOP gets control of the House or Senate.
reuters.com/world/us/anoth…
On ethics @POTUS is batting 95%. The White House should have nothing to do with Hunter Biden's art sales (the president has no obligation to control his son) and there are too many problems with the Biden name being used by @PennBiden, a private organization, but that's about it.
Problems with @PennBiden are: 1) Penn uses the Biden Center to raise money and Penn solicits large foreign donations, 2) the 2017-19 professor appointment Biden had with Penn is now over; 3) Penn's inability to fire a racist professor; and 4) Penn is elite, expensive and private.
It's ridiculous for the GOP to blame @POTUS for the actions of people who don't work for him. Anyone who thinks a president can control his adult son's art sales is as naive as anyone who thinks a president can control members of Congress - two Democratic senators in particular.
I endorsed @HillaryClinton here. The Clinton Foundation was run properly, but I strongly urged Clinton not to allow her name to be used by any private foundation or organization after she became president. We elected a corrupt hotel proprietor instead.

We need leaders who will fight crime and racism, leaders who will support the police but have zero tolerance for racism in policing.
Too many of these politicians don''t get it. Race baiting is as destructive as defunding the police.
duluthnewstribune.com/news/minnesota…
There may be no more racist police officers than there are racist professors (I've dealt with a few here), but in both cases racists need to get fired. There is no "freedom" to be a racist and keep a job. People who don't get that do not understand the rule of law.
As for the DFL, too many politicians knew about racial profiling in policing and did nothing and said nothing about it. One former City Council member, a lawyer, even admitted it on the record in Falcon Heights in 2016 (minutes, pg.6).
Vote them out!

There will always be those who put the self interest of an institution and the inflated egos of their colleagues within it over standing up for what it right.
That's true of many institutions but such behavior in the U.S. Senate is destroying democracy.
nytimes.com/2022/01/13/us/…
Given a choice between supporting inflated egos of "colleagues" in my line of work and supporting the rule of law and abolishing a vestige of Jim Crow, I would choose the latter.
@kyrstensinema and @Sen_JoeManchin choose the former.
American democracy now is on life support.
We see collaboration among "colleagues" to pursue selfish ends and ignore wrongdoing in the church, in universities, in business organizations, in police unions and elsewhere. But the U.S. Senate is supposed to REPRESENT US.
@kyrstensinema and @Sen_JoeManchin DO YOUR JOBS!

Not sure how this will go. Pleading collusion is one thing, proving it another. A very large percentage of students at "top" private universities come from well off families. But that's always been the case. They just pretend it's not.
nbcnews.com/think/opinion/… via @NBCNewsTHINK
Many students are on financial aid (really just a price discount). Economists call this "discriminatory pricing." At $80K total cost per year families need top 5% income or higher to pay full freight (more for more kids). Lots of financial aid goes to top 25% families.
State attorneys general should open their own investigation. Perhaps also DOJ and the Department of Education, although higher education lobbying and campaign contributions are likely to keep that from happening.

Chauvin was recently indicted for this crime in 2017. Minneapolis officials knew about it then, but didn't fire him. He like a racist professor had job security equivalent to tenure. George Floyd would be alive today if city officials had done their jobs.
mprnews.org/story/2020/11/…
Some people feel (wrongly) that a racist professor has a right to a job because of tenure. Can we at least agree that racist or violent police officers don't have tenure? Minneapolis knew about Chauvin and still kept him on the streets until he killed George Floyd.
Rules for dismissal of a Minneapolis police officer are complex and make removal next to impossible. Who drafts the rules? The police union. What other group of employees gets to draft rules for this own dismissal with little pushback from the employer? Not many. This is corrupt.

This man said law deans shouldn't talk about racism and George Floyd's murder. He regularly attacks women philosophers. He now defends @pennlaw keeping Amy Wax after she said there are "too many Asians" in the U.S. Next he says I'm not fit for my job. Huh?
leiterlawschool.typepad.com/leiter/2022/01…
Then there are Mr. Leiter's repeated blogs and Tweets supporting a lawsuit against Yale by a graduate student who now has a website with the domain name wokekkk .com
620 philosophers signed this letter, linked to in a story in the New York Times. This just about sums the situation up.

This bias case is against the same University where Amy Wax got to keep a $300K+ job after saying Black students are inferior and there are "too many Asians."
Another reason for @POTUS to cut ties with @PennBiden and reconsider the Gutmann nomination.
news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-re…
Penn is not alone. U. Minnesota was sued over sexual harassment, discrimination and retaliation in its Music School. A male professor playing the FMK game during graduate student oral examinations, a department head commenting on what's under a female professor's skirt and more .
Reliable sources say that the #MeToo plaintiff in the Minnesota case is seriously considering running for Congress as an independent candidate. We need to fix some laws in this Country.
