This group of deserve a LOT of love.⁣
#Pembrokeshire Sanctuary group formed as a rapid response to the hundreds of people being held in the woefully inadequate Penally Barracks.⁣

The local community were horrified. 150+ people came together to offer support & friendship
1/🧵
They organised distributions of supplies, ran classes, befriending sessions, sports & wellbeing trips & coordinated a bike scheme.⁣

In March last year Penally barracks finally closed.⁣

The @ukhomeoffice wanted hostility, but this community made sure that love won.⁣

2/🧵
Now this group feel it's the right time to close their own doors. ⁣
⁣"We are all volunteers. For some it has been the most demanding work of our lives. But the friendships we've made, both with volunteers & with 'the boys' who were once in Penally, will last a lifetime."⁣
3/🧵
Please join us in showing a HUGE amount of love, respect and gratitude to them all 🧡🧡🧡

LOVE WINS.

This is my second Christmas in the UK & the first I'm looking forward to 🎄

This year I am happy. I am happy because I no longer have nightmares about crossing the sea, forests & borders.

I'm happy because I finally feel safe.

THREAD 1/4
I am happy because I live with a family that loves me like their own child.

I am happy because my best friend also lives with us and is not alone in the hotel like last year.

I am happy because I live with my girlfriend after years of waiting.
2/4
I am happy because I am working for my future & I am studying at uni.

I am happy this year because I have hope for the future. Although I am an asylum seeker, but I am full of hope.

I am happy to celebrate because after many years I feel that I have a normal life at last.
