Mitch McConnell is on the floor of the senate gaslighting the nation once again. He is saying that tomorrow will be Joe Biden’s 1st year in office and he hasn’t brought the nation together yet.
The debate is on voting rights. I am done. A wee rant🧵👇🏻
Mitch is saying the democrats are using fear and panic to silence millions of Americans. This is not correct. Right now the Republicans are passing laws in the states they control to make it harder to vote. This notion of ‘silencing’ voters is so disingenuous.
The way a voter is ‘silenced’ is if they can’t vote. We have continually heard that 70 million Americans have been silenced in the last election. How are they silenced if we know they voted? There is a difference between being silenced and losing an election. They lost.
Silencing voters is eliminating ballot drop off locations, denying the ability to collect ballots from those unable to get to polls themselves, eliminating polling precincts in high population areas causing long lines, requiring in person voting during a pandemic. Death silences.
Mitch is saying why haven’t the democrats focused on more pressing issues like the ‘seemingly endless’ pandemic. Seemingly endless? What the f***, it is now a pandemic of the unvaccinated because republicans refuse to accept science. They refuse to address this as Americans.
Biden hasn’t failed to unite all on his own you know. It takes the republicans to be willing to work with him. They aren’t. This is a fascist tactic McConnell is using. He is setting the stage to blame everyone else for he himself is doing and the country can not heal.
He says the democrats are using fear and panic. What is he using? He just said the Dems should be more concerned about the border, murder rates, inflation (created by republican owned business). Are these dogwhistle not scare tactics?
He says they are concerned with fake panic about elections laws that exist only in their imaginations. F*** I am going to have a stroke.

These laws are not imaginary. Right now, there is a law in Georgia that makes it illegal to pass out water to people in line waiting to vote.
Think of that. They’ve made humanity illegal. But only after they made the voting lines longer. If there is only one voting precinct in a large community, and there is large turn out, then the lines get long, in Georgia. Can your grandmother stand in an 8 hour line to vote?
McConnell uses polling data to say virtually no one thinks election law is our number one problem. Well, Mitch what were the choices? Did they think that a fascist coup was more important? He cherry picks facts. He is not interested in governing.
There are other laws not in my imagination but in writing making their way through state houses that would eliminate drop boxes, that would allow for the elimination of nonpartisan election oversight. This is stealing your vote. This is silencing your voice.
Also citing (but not really citing the actual name of the poll or who conducted it, btw) the poll says that Americans believe election laws to be too lax and not restrictive enough. Perhaps it’s only republicans who qualify as Americans these days in Mitch’s mind.
Make no mistake. We are talking about white supremacy and systematic racism here. Those ballot boxes, those single polling precincts are in majority Black and Brown communities. White people can vote quick, fast and in a hurry but Black folks are waiting in line for hours.
If voting laws are too loose and insecure, they are saying that they themselves are too insecure of what might happen if everyone could vote in a free and fair election. They see that turnout always means the democrats get more votes. Perhaps it is their ideas that make it so.
The GOP failed to even put forward a party platform at their last RNC. Their beliefs were what trump told them they were. This is not governance, this is the tyranny they say the democrats are practicing in. Not wanting to be ruled by a tyrant is kind of why this country exists.
The Senate used to be known as the world’s greatest deliberative body. They no longer have to debate. McConnell further says killing the legislative filibuster will destroy the senate. He again is lying. There is no motion to kill the legislative filibuster.
The democrats are seeking a carve out for voting rights legislation. Mitch McConnell himself has carved away the filibuster for Supreme Court justices. Ask yourself why what he does is ok, but when the Dems to it save democracy and preserve fundamental rights, it isn’t.
McConnell says Obama was against eliminating the filibuster. He uses Obama’s words as a Senator against him. GOP was trying to nuke the filibuster! He takes these words out of context because he knows you won’t look up why he said them. So here it is.

obamaspeeches.com/010-The-Nuclea…
McConnell then moves on to talk about how quickly this elections bill is moving forward. How the senate never moves this fast. Really? Because wasn’t it Mitch McConnell nominating Supreme Court Justices hours after the death of RBG? Hours. After. Her. Death.
McConnell has no shame, no credibility and no business having the name leader anywhere around his name. If the republicans take the Senate in 2022, Mitch will be the first to kill the filibuster.
McConnell says the senate is not broken because they passed bipartisan bills this year. But none that would help the people of KY. How are voting rights not a bipartisan issue? Because McConnell says they aren’t. McConnell is holding us hostage.
Watch the debate. See who is fighting for your right to vote, see who is trying to pull the wool over your eyes. Today, each Senator etches their mark upon history. Vote accordingly.

I’m not sure we are appreciating @marceelias enough.

We know Sidney Powell and others filed a number of lawsuits in a number of states to try to overturn the election. And we know there are 7 states who had false electors.

Now, we need to know this…Buckle up. A wee🧵👇🏻
This picture is still emerging. A conspiracy is being laid out before us. @TheJusticeDept @January6thCmte need to look very closely at this thread.

Please read this. Here we go…
As I said, we now know Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Arizona all had a slate of false electors.
But now we can add the fact that 5 of the false electors in Georgia were also named Plaintiffs in a *pre-December 14, 2020* lawsuit in Georgia.

On the call with Judge Kelly, there is discussion about defendants in jail dealing with Covid restrictions not being able to review evidence against them. People could just get vaccinated, wear masks and wash their hands and not commit crimes. Have they tried that?
Also Nordean has been in solitary confinement for 30 days and his attorney doesn’t know why. No matter what we think of these defendants, they deserve adequate representation because we are a country of laws. It’s because he failed on Jan 6 he’s still afforded those rights, btw.
Bigg’s lawyer is arguing that the DC jail is a place where no one can adequately prepare for trial no matter the reason they are there. He says it is a very unhappy place. Really? Jail isn’t a pleasant experience? Sounds like a ‘finding out’ situation.

January 6th was a pretty bad day. It was a bad day for our country, it was a bad day for democracy and truth be told, no matter how much he reveled in it in the tent, on the stage, or in the dining room, it was a pretty bad day for trump. But it got worse for him on Jan 7th. 🧵👇🏻
January 6th was such a big deal that this intelligence community report seems to have fallen a bit by the wayside. This report is short, only 15 pages, so please read it. Here is the full version.

On Jan 7th, the National Intelligence Council presented this report to trump. One day after his failed insurrection predicated on an election he lost but said was stolen, he learned from his own team that even with Putin’s help undermining our electoral process he didn’t win.

I appreciate the @January6thCmte and the massive amount of work they have done thus far, however that doesn’t preclude me from having questions for them. By this point, they should have subpoenas and criminal referrals drafted for everyone they want to talk to ready to go. 🧵👇🏻
They asked for cooperation from Bannon who told them to go shit in their hat. They rightfully referred him to the DOJ who waited a month before before deciding to indict him. This would be fine if the committee had begun 10 months before they did, but they were late there too.
Once Mark Meadows was identified as someone the committee needed to speak with, they allowed him to play them. He cooperated, then he didn’t, then maybe he would, then finally he too, told them to go screw. Now he is on indictment watch after a late criminal referral.

Sure Jim Jordan confirming he isn’t going to cooperate with the @January6thCmte (we knew he wouldn’t), evokes Benghazi, but don’t fall for the trap. Keep the focus on Jordan. Besides the provably false statements in his letter (Pelosi/McCarthy negotiation) there is more to see.👇🏻
First, let’s remember who is has just decided to *not* cooperate with the most important investigation of the biggest crime in the history of this nation. 🗣Jordan is the RANKING MEMBER OF THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE.
Do you remember that Reuters article? The one where they say the FBI has ‘scant evidence’? If you ever wondered why that article was written, it was so congressmen could use is at as a defense. Check the footnotes, Jim Jordan has just used it as a defense.
