EXCLUSIVE: Dick Uihlein, founder of Uline shipping company, donated millions of dollars in 2020 to an assortment of groups associated with overturning the election, including right-wing extremists organizations and ones designated as hate groups
According to previously unreported tax disclosures, Uihlein made the donations through his nonprofit, the Ed Uihlein Family Foundation.
The foundation’s $16.8 million in 2020 donations came exclusively from Uihlein himself. trib.al/K0qUTKb
Kyle Herring, president of left-leaning watchdog group @accountable_us, told The Daily Beast that money from Uihlein and his wife, Elizabeth, has “promoted hate and sedition” trib.al/K0qUTKb
“In 2020, as workers and families struggled to get by, Dick and Liz Uihlein’s company cashed in on pandemic aid–then turned around and funded hate groups pushing COVID conspiracy theories, bigotry, and efforts to undermine democracy,” said Herring trib.al/K0qUTKb
The foundation’s latest tax filing shows Uihlein contributed more than $4 million to groups such as the Conservative Partnership Institute, The Federalist Society, Texas Public Policy Forum, and the Center for Security Policy trib.al/K0qUTKb
But his donations didn’t stop at right-wing think tanks and far-right extremist groups.
He also donated to right-wing media outlets that pushed false narratives about the election.
And some money made it to groups directly involved with events on Jan.6
While Delta flight number 45 was making its way across the Atlantic from Ireland to New York City on Jan. 7, passenger Shane McInerney allegedly had a public meltdown that led him to at one point strip down to “moon” his fellow travelers. thedailybeast.com/delta-passenge…
The incident was sparked when he “repeatedly refused to wear a facemask despite being asked dozens of times” by the flight crew, according to a criminal complaint. thedailybeast.com/delta-passenge…
In addition to endangering himself and others by going maskless, McInerney “threw an empty beverage can" that hit a passenger and “kicked the back of the passenger seat in front of him," the filing says. thedailybeast.com/delta-passenge…
A Virginia mom—who also works as a dental hygienist— went off the rails during a school board meeting Thursday when she threatened to bring a loaded gun to school if her kids were forced to wear face masks trib.al/aVQGQsH
Everything seemed to be going well at the school board meeting initially.
A doctor presented updates on the pandemic and the importance of mask-wearing, and a slew of parents made speeches advocating for face coverings. thedailybeast.com/amelia-king-th…
Then, things took a turn.
Amelia King of Luray, Virginia, got up to speak at the meeting and made a threat.
“All right. No mask mandates. My children will not come to school Monday with a mask on...And I will bring every single gun loaded and ready.” thedailybeast.com/amelia-king-th…
Dunt talks about the royal family cutting their losses.
“It’s a family, kind of, but it’s not a family like any other kind of family. And when you get a bad (one) in there, you are gonna cut your losses and that’s pretty much what they’ve done” trib.al/swsN5Wa
And he says the no-longer Royal Highness may not have regular people money worries, but “maybe more of a struggle is the complete reputational collapse that he’s experienced over this period.” trib.al/swsN5Wa
On the latest episode of FEVER DREAMS, co-hosts @willsommer and @swin24 talk about the concrete barriers on the White House lawn, which are for fountain maintenance.
.@willsommer points out that the incident is a meta-commentary on "Washington as canvas for conspiracy theories…there are people who just walk around Washington filming things that they think are odd but often aren’t odd…" thedailybeast.com/latest-bonkers…
On the latest episode of FEVER DREAMS, Moore joined @swin24 and @willsommer to talk about what she saw during her stint undercover.
Her main takeaway was that “there’s a rise of right-wing populism among the under-30 crowd that's incredibly alarming." thedailybeast.com/she-went-under…
“I really just can never stress enough, the rise of the younger populist fascists...everybody, under 35, I met who was at the Capitol says, ‘We did it. That was us...It would’ve been cooler if we had gotten further,’" Moore said. thedailybeast.com/she-went-under…
This year is already pretty abnormal. On the first @newabnormalpod ep of the year, co-hosts @mollyjongfast and @andylevy discuss the hypocritical interaction between Candace Owens and Trump on vaccines
“Her big defense of him [is] that he’s old and he’s not on the internet enough, as if the less you’re on the internet, the more you probably know. That’s not how it works, given the amount of false information on the internet,” said Levy.
The co-hosts also talk about how Trump could have helped sway anti-vaxxers by publicly receiving his booster or announcing he got it, but he didn’t, “because fundamentally he’s a coward,” according to Andy
