Why is it always one step to *suicide* in this debate? It's this completely lurid and ghoulish debating tactic that gets trotted out as a failsafe. A teacher wants to talk about whether a book is suitable for 9 year olds, and that's supposed to make people end it all?
Honestly, it's like "Hey maybe male bodied people shouldn't be competing in women's athletics," and the response is "I worry someone who hears this will conclude the world would be a better place if they killed themselves." You hear this so much that it's become normal.
Many women have noted that the only other people who consistently use this argument are sociopath ex's who manipulate women into keeping them in their lives: "Love me or my blood on your hands," etc etc
(This, of course, contrats with the opposite scenario, of instant affirmation, a land of endless rainbows, glitter, and lollipops)
The additional bonus of this gambit is that it puts language-policing "allies" in the self-imagined role of hashtagging Oskar Schindlers: By their conceit, telling people what they're allowed to say means saving the trans world from mass self extinction.
trans ppl I've met (& interviewed) seem like strong, confident people. The ppl who seem keen to argue otherwise, bizarrely, are the self-valorizing activists who portray themselves as guardians of delicate martyrs-in-the-making, who would end it all without the #allies' heroism

Who wants to live in fear ?
okay, so some asked if I had anyone muted, & it turned out I had a LOT—more than I thought. But I just purged that list, too. (Curiously, most ppl on that list were ppl I actually like, but who tweet too much about stuff I happen not to be interested in, & "unfollow" feels harsh)
So basically, @wrdsb is shaming one of its own teachers (who expressed concerns about the book) as a human rights offender. I wonder how @osstf and @ETFOeducators feel about their union members being attacked in this way. Oh right, yeah, I forgot: it's cool if it's a gender thing
So, @wrdsb, how is this not libel against the teacher? And why would any teacher in your district now agree to appear before @Karen_Meissner_ & @ScottPiatkowski knowing they will then use board comms to humiliate and libel them as bigots if they express ideological differences?
Hey you know what would really make people lose trust in the media? If reporters at Canada's biggest newspaper started rooting for the pandemic to get worse.. I think that would really do the trick
Like, I know this would never happen.... but imagine if they started using Twitter as a kind of futures market to bet on an apocalyptic outcome so they could say "I told you so"....
Now I also want you to imagine, again I know this is totally crazy, that the journalists doing this kind of thing were the same ones who were actually reporting on news about covid. would be a pretty good way to lose the trust of their audience. So good thing that isnt happening
Last year, the world was shocked to learn of 215 claimed unmarked child graves in Kamloops. It made intl news. But 8 months later, the intl coverage is very different. None of us want to believe this was "concocted." So now is the time for evidence...
...If an epic crime of child slaughter was committed, as is widely claimed, then the remains of these victims will yield clues to the killers—who may still be alive (& perhaps even putting other children at risk). There is a humanitarian & legal imperative to produce the evidence
Indeed, I find it hard to explain why there has been no demand from any quarter for this kind of investigation. Think of the resources deployed to search Robert Pickton's farm in 2002-2003. The Kamloops killers, we are told, murdered *four* times as many victims as Pickton
This is just incredible. A female teacher voiced her concerns about school materials that painted a medically unrealistic picture of transition. So this dude accused her of transphobia and threw her out of the meeting. Now he's bragging about doing it.
Beyond satire: They couldn't even figure out how to pin a transphobia rap on the woman, so now they're claiming that she "opened the door to transphobic comments"
Interesting @nytimes piece by @Max_Fisher. Russia, Hungary, China etc are sanitizing their national histories, & persecuting those who mention the bad parts. But in Canada/US, it's the opposite: Elites insist our history is nothing but racism & genocide… nytimes.com/2022/01/05/wor…
... both narratives are profoundly ahistorical (including spin-off myths that present Indigenous societies as eco-feminist collectives populated by pacifistic barb-a-loots & ewoks). Yet some centrifugal force is pushing everyone to embrace one fantasy or the other. Very bizarre
in both cases, history acts as an ersatz creation myth for a post-religious world—but in radically different ways. In Canada, Indigenous societies were/are Eden, and "settlers" have Original Sin. Indigenous peoples therefore become prophet figures who guide us back to Eden ...
