Islamophobia is endemic in @Conservatives: A survey into Islamophobia amongst its party members suggested
- 2/3 of Tory members believe the Islamophobic far right conspiracy that parts of UK are under Sharia law
- Nearly 1/2 prefer not to have a Muslim PM theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
More than half of those Conservative Party members surveyed (56%) by YouGov think the religion is "generally a threat" to the British way of life. news.sky.com/story/tory-mem…
Polling also shows anti-Muslim prejudice is more prevalent amongst @Conservatives *supporters*:
- 42% believe Tommy Robinson highlights issues ignored by media (vs. 18% from Labour)
- 49% see Islam as threat to British way of life (vs. 21% from Labour)
And 27% believe Muslim immigration to this country is part of a bigger plan to make Muslims a majority of this country’s population (vs. 8% of Labour voters)
This is a truly revolting theory so prevalent amongst the Party supporters
1. RTed Tommy Robinson 2. Hosted anti-Muslim extremist in Parliament 3. Shared fake news from anti-Muslim site 4. Shared an anti-Muslim Facebook post 5. Was part of anti-Muslim Facebook groups 6. Shared platform with Hopkins & Vance
1. Shared tweets by Tommy Robinson 2. Asked Sadiq Khan about grooming gangs (what's it got to do with him?) 3. Said vote rigging is "commonplace" in Muslim communities
Zac Goldsmith - who ran the racist campaign for Mayor of London - was given a peerage and will attend Boris Johnson's Cabinet, despite being kicked out *again* by his constituents.
And let's not forget how the entire Conservative Party establishment not just backed but were advocates for this racist campaign & participated actively.
Remember the PM at the time, making a false statement, to support Zac Goldsmith
She kept quiet after being warned that if she continued to raise the issue she would be “ostracised by colleagues” and her “career and reputation would be destroyed”
She was told by a whip that her “‘Muslimness was raised as an issue”
This is an issue many have raised for years
The Party thought that an inquiry that was set up to fail, would brush this under the carpet
But with the underlying issues with the Party's culture not dealt with, the problem will not go away.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the anti-apartheid veteran called South Africa's moral conscience, famously said: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor" & applied this to today
Many will celebrate his understanding of oppression & his status as South Africa's moral conscience but ignore his views on today's oppression & apartheid
ICYMI: he called on the US Presbyterian Church to boycott Israel & condemn it as an apartheid state haaretz.com/tutu-israel-is…
His first article in the Guardian in 2002, was on this topic
It is appropriate that on Stephen Pollard's last day as Editor of the Jewish Chronicle, it publishes this disgusting headline.
As people examine his tenure, I wonder if they actually are aware of the positions the Jewish Chronicle published during his tenure as Editor?
Thread.
After 51 Muslims were killed in a terror attack in a mosque in Christchurch, The Jewish Chronicle *chose* to publish this disgusting piece by Melanie Phillips playing down Islamophobia.
Some might say the case studies are only the bad apples
Yet the report dispels this myth by showing how widespread the issue is, based on detailed analysis of more than 48,000 print articles & 5,500 TV clips that mentioned Muslims or Islam
Denial of the scale of Islamophobia in the Conservative Party is no longer acceptable
Will @BrandonLewis, Chair of @Conservatives, now apologise after he said: "I would dispute that [Islamophobia in the party] is an issue that exists in the first place"?
Will former Deputy Chairman @JamesCleverly apologise, after he had said he didn't agree with @SayeedaWarsi assessment of "almost weekly occurrences of Islamophobic incidents".
