Over the past several months, the #PAVETaskForce - which I'm proud to co-chair with @AmbRice46 - has made important progress to advance racial equity in home appraisals.
Follow along for some of the efforts introduced across federal agencies. 1 /
.@HUDgov issued a Mortgagee Letter to appraisers, which emphasized compliance with the Fair Housing Act and other antidiscrimination laws. 2/
.@FHFA and @HUDgov signed a first-of-its-kind collaborative agreement to promote fair housing and fair lending coordination. 3/
The @ascgov launched an independent review of the appraisal regulatory system to evaluate potential hurdles to fair and objective appraisals. 4/
And soon, the #PAVETaskForce will release its report detailing government actions that ensure all Americans may create and leverage generational wealth through their homes.
From an #MLKDay trip to the birthplace of Dr. King to the awarding of tens of millions of dollars in equitable COVID-19 relief to Tribal communities, @HUDGov had a productive week.

A few months ago, HUD launched House America: An All-Hands-On-Deck Effort to Address the Nation’s Homelessness Crisis.
And with 2022 quickly approaching, I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the mighty team I fight alongside to reduce homelessness in this country.
Follow along:
From HUD's New England region, I welcome Worcester, MA to #HouseAmerica's team. I applaud Boston, MA and the great states of Maine and Vermont for announcing their own sets of goals.
From HUD's Region 2, I applaud @rasjbaraka, Mayor of the great City of Newark, for joining the #HouseAmerica initiative and making a commitment to house Newark.
Over the past year, far too many stories recounting the serious and all too frequent problem of racial bias latent in home buying and homeownership have made major headlines.
I say enough is enough. HUD is doing something about it. Follow along: 1/
Every time I see one of these stories, like the story in Marin County, I am reminded why the work we do at @HUDGov to combat appraisal bias through the interagency Property Appraisal and Valuation Equity task force (#PAVETaskForce) is so important. 2/ pressdemocrat.com/article/news/a…
HUD, along with @AmbRice46 and the @WhiteHouse Domestic Policy Council, is taking on these issues from the root.
And early next year, we're planning to put forward a set of actions and recommendations that will help end these discriminatory practices for good. 3/
