I’m the founder CEO of an educational e-commerce toy company that did $8.8 million in sales in 2021.

This article is going to tell you what that was like and how things were different in 2021 than in 2020.

Here's a 🧵 of the highlights 👇

Despite our best efforts, Amazon still accounts for 90.8% of our sales.

2/12
The moat that people rely on to protect themselves from competition on Amazon is pretty unreliable.

3/12
Walmart got wrecked by Amazon in 2021.

4/12
Our off-Amazon sales are growing fast, but from a very small base.

5/12
The supply chain into the United States is broken.

6/12
In 2021, we paid extravagant prices for moving containers from Asia to Texas...and it's not getting better.

7/12
A lot of people think that the price increases are transitory and only caused by a few nagging issues in the supply chain.

That's not true.

8/12
Our 2021 vs 2020 sales look entirely driven by government stimulus.

9/12
Best product launch of 2021 was definitely my son!

10/12
We are getting destroyed in early 2022.

There are a ton more insights in the article in the first tweet of this thread — I just posted the most interesting graphs.

I wrote a similar article for 2020, which you can check out here.

Figured it’d make sense for me to lay out my theory on controversial tweets because I feel like it’s 1) misunderstood 2) interesting to people (“why does he do this?”)

1. Sorry to disappoint you but I am not the second coming of @sweatystartup - I don’t know much about that guy
but I know enough to say that I think different. Also, Twitter/social media isn’t how I make money. I don’t tweet to increase my following. When you sell childrens toys to educator in particular, it’s probably not net profitable for me to tweet most of what I write
2. I tweet what I honestly believe. I get some stuff wrong and I sometimes change my mind. One of the great things about Twitter is that if I’m wrong and I tweet it I’m going to find out. I subject my thinking to criticism via Twitter for this reason. I end up long-term right!

Here’s my theory which inspired this question:

In 2022, internet penetration is significantly higher than it was during many of the famous tamed inflationary episodes.

As such, more and more countries, upon hitting bad inflation, instead of taming it via higher

interest rates, won’t; they’ll get stuck in an Argentine or Venezuelan inflation loop. This will happen because today, unlike before, the internet makes it much easier to hold other currencies such as USD Euro or Crypto.

If this is right, two things happen from here:
1. At some point, it’s going to set off a tsunami of loss of trust in small country currencies resulting in higher and higher inflation. The countries may transact some in local currencies but everyone will hold in usd, euro, or crypto

2. It’s going to set off a perverse demand

If you're getting mrna boosted, ask them to aspirate the needle so you can be assured that they're not accidentally injecting into an artery or vein.

Bad things happen in mice when you inject into arteries/veins.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why boys are are having heart issues is simply caused by accidental intravenous injection.

Boys have bigger muscles and bigger muscles need more blood flow right?

Vaccine ends up creating tons of spikes in the heart

Bonus tweet: explanation of this image

1st pic is control (saline solution or whatever) injected into vein of rat.
2nd pic is mrna vaccine injected into vein of rat.
3rd pic is mrna vaccine injected into the muscle.

Series of tweets which explains what Baumol’s Cost Disease is and then applies it to countries instead of people, and then finally makes predictions about which developing countries will make it and why.

Here we go:
“Baumol's cost disease (or the Baumol effect) is the rise of salaries in jobs that have experienced no or low increase of labor productivity, in response to rising salaries in other jobs that have experienced higher labor productivity growth.” en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baumol%27…
Examples:

Goldman Sachs must raise their starting wage for college grads because if they don’t, they will work at higher salaries for Facebook.

US manufacturers must raise their wages to compete with Amazon’s logistics and warehousing wages to get labor.

When Bill Gates or Warren Buffet answer the question "Why are you so rich and successful?" with "I've been enormously lucky." they're doing society a disservice in the hope that more people will like them.

Wealth and success are a product of talent, drive, the ability to

learn from your mistakes and then change your behavior— not luck.

Yes, those guys were lucky to be born in the US when they were, to be born smart, to have not been hit by a bus, and to not have had parents who fucked them up (too much), but we're all the lucky sperm.

The average person gets 630,000 hours on this planet.

You mean to tell me that with that much time, you weren't able to overcome whatever "bad luck" you faced in your life?

Give me a break.
