🚨🚨 @nadhimzahawi - ‘90% of those in ICU are unvaccinated’

FACT CHECK

➡️ Latest estimates in December put it at 61% ❌

➡️ Since then numbers in ICU are down to lowest since July & around 40% in ICU with Covid are in with it but not for it

💥 Minister is misleading the public
The 61% estimate comes from the ICNARC report which you can access and see on page 45 - icnarc.org/DataServices/A…

You can see the latest situation for hospitals in England in this tweet.

Remember most of the patients in critical care beds in England are in for non Covid reasons and more unoccupied beds than there are with Covid patients
This thread covers quite a lot of misinformation put out over the media in the past month from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky from presenters and contributors.

The 90% number has been repeatedly called out.
The vast majority of the population is vaccinated and unvaccinated are over represented in ICU, but the repeated number of 90% is false.

Also with Omicron fewer patients are getting seriously ill.

Bremen in Germany has the highest vaccination rate and the hardest hit by Omicron.
France have some of the toughest restrictions, even banning people from travelling in from the UK and have massive cases.

🚨🚨 Metro - Daily Covid deaths hit 11-month high as nearly 400 people die

➡️ Current seven day average of deaths by when they occur is around 181.

The 400 relates to the day reported including a backlog

💥 Headline misleading ❌❌
We are seeing an increase in the number of people dying within 28 days of a positive test but with Omicron this metric is becoming less reliable.

Over the past 28 days there have 3.8 million positive tests and more will be dying with Covid and not because of it.
At the extreme, if 100% of the population had a +ve test in the past 28 days, every death that occurs for whatever reason would be included.

More people are entering hospital with Covid but not because of it and some will die. This does not necessarily mean Covid the reason.

🚨🚨 UK is past the peak in cases this winter with cases in all 4 nations falling.

➡️ Deaths rising for those with a +ve test. It is likely an increasing number will be with Covid but not due to it.

➡️ Cases down 18% week on week in the UK as a whole
Patients with Covid on ventilators in England continue to fall

➡️ 35 in whole of Wales with Covid on a ventilator ❌

➡️ 8 in Cardiff and Vale regardless of vaccine status

This is blatant misinformation. In England average age of unvaccinated in ICU is 50 years old, so I would like to know what is classed as ‘young’ although most of what was said was inaccurate anyway
