American soldiers who grew addicted to heroin in Vietnam were able to quit relatively easily when they *weren’t* around heroin back in the U.S.

Addiction experts agree that “the city should not mix active drug use with people seeking treatment.”

“If you’re coming into a place that’s supposed to guide you toward the end of seeking treatment and recovery and there are people using drugs around you, that becomes an incentive to keep going,” said @KeithNHumphreys . “It’s like trying to have an AA meeting in a bar.”

“How is that going to work if you walk up to someone who just smoked [fentanyl] and say, ‘Hey, do you want rehab?’ That’s not going to work. You’re messing with that guy’s high. How can you engage him at that moment?” said former homeless addict @Twolfrecovery

Incredibly, the SF government is STILL DENYING that it is a supervised drug consumption site, despite city contractors calling it precisely that

A “spokesperson for the Department running the linkage center, denied the city was operating a supervised consumption site.”

“When asked by The Chronicle what happens if someone tries to use drugs in the outdoor or indoor areas of the linkage center, and whether staff will allow the practice to continue, Zamora did not answer directly.”

The reason SF government spokespersons are acting guilty is because they are guilty, legally and ethically

There are MANY people associated with the linkage center who believe it is idiotic and inhumane but who won’t speak up, at least not yet

It’s time for Mayor @LondonBreed to shut down the supervised drug dealing and drug consumption site

It constitutes a totally unscientific, unethical, and radical experiment on vulnerable addicts and the mentally ill

I appreciate that our reporting made the front page of @sfchronicle

But we won’t be satisfied until the Mayor shuts it down
