🏡With most Londoners stuck indoors over the last two years, many of us decided to focus on the inside of our homes.
🖌️We painted the living room, spruced up the garden and bought more plants than we had space for.
🪴Supermarkets did a roaring trade on houseplants during the pandemic.
👀But many don’t realise that small variations in common plants can make them extremely valuable.
🌿These naturally occurring variations are sometimes mistaken for disease and shops can even sell them at a reduced price.
💰But selling just a small part of these plants, like a leaf or a stem, could earn you a small fortune.
🪴Swiss Cheese plant, or Monstera Deliciosa, is perhaps the most common plant to find in any shop.
🌱While a regular green plant isn’t worth much, a variegated monstera is very rare and a single five-inch stick sells on Facebook Marketplace for £1,399.
🌿The Swiss Cheese plant's smaller cousin, the Variegated Monstera Adansonii, is even more valuable.
💵These plants are hungry and need to be fed throughout winter, but a single leaf can sell for as much as £1,533.39 on Etsy.
🪴There are over 400 species of Philodendron in the world, which means some shops might struggle to differentiate between them.
🌱But the white-lined glossy leaves of the White Knight or Philodendron White Princess can sell on various sites for between £400 and £4,000.
🌿The Pink Princess Philodendron is very similar but has pink variegation instead of white.
🌸The pink colour looks stunning once mature but can take a while to show.
💰A mature plant goes for as much as £2,228 on Etsy and a single leaf cutting could easily earn you £200.
🐛Perhaps one of the rarest houseplants is the Monstera Obliqua, whose fragile leaves can be mistaken for pest damage.
🔎But a genuine Obliqua is amongst the most sought after plants by enthusiasts and a single leaf is on sale on Etsy for £1,590.
Would you pay over £1,000 for a rare houseplant?💵
