Jobstreet Country Manager Philip Gioca on the PH GDP growth: It’s the same g that we have felt in our jobs market.
Gioca: In fact in 2021, we saw 900,000 jobs and majority were generated in the second half and pinpointing Q4. bit.ly/33TO8dO
Gioca: There were about 250,000 jobs that were posted and the good thing is that they offered a bigger salary offer to people working in 22 different industries.
Gioca says most of the jobs were created in education, public service, social services, electronics, IT, marketing, telecoms, health care, construction and communication services.
Gioca: Most of these are the ones who tried during the pandemic which means that they were the industries who pivoted quickly to digitalization.
Gioca says the average increase of salary was 23%.
Gioca: In our report, its mainly formal, permanent job. But we have other data sets that tells us that there was an increase in the number of gig jobs.
Gioca says other industries also recorded lower salary, including oil and gas, and hospitality.
Gioca: We are seeing aligned numbers that it will go up and increase some more.
Gioca says biggest demand for Filipino workers is in the IT software industry.
Gioca: There is a growing number of remote working condition. That means principals are based overseas and they are working Filipinos while working from home. They are given the same benefits.
Gioca to those looking for job: While waiting for work, it’s important they retool themselves specific to digital and ways of working in the digital space.
Gioca: This pandemic, despite lowering of cases, we will still have a hybrid form of work… Having a digital knowledge is a key ingredient now.

AcadArena founder Justin Banusing: We’re sticking to the PH for at least the first of this year then we’re planning to look at other countries as well in Southeast Asia.
Banusing: We kind of wind to bridge people from across the world through campus gaming.
AcadArena founder Ariane Lim: With us, we are the ones absorb the expenses and the students just need to focus on studying and playing the game to graduate. They grind currency in this game that they can liquidate to peso.
Lim on how the government could help: The very first step is for lawmakers and the stakeholders to dive deep in the digital space because it’s difficult to write laws in a space you couldn’t understand.
Lim: Research is important. I hope we don’t pass laws because e-sports is the next big thing.
