(PS) The GOP is now so entwined with the Russia-Ukraine crisis that it's impossible to understand why Tucker Carlson is taking Russia's side without reading about the almost impossibly complex, nefarious backstory behind all of this—which involves elections, energy and espionage.
(PS2) Back in winter 2019-20—when I pitched a book on Ukraine to Macmillan—the prevailing wisdom was that it was folly, as the "Trump-Ukraine scandal" was little more than a brouhaha over a single phone call. PROOF OF CORRUPTION is 600 pages because in fact that was *never* true.
(PS3) I don't think (another) Russian invasion of Ukraine would launch World War III. But there's no doubt that world wars have started over less. A Russian invasion of Ukraine is an invasion of Europe by an autocratic state without any cause—a textbook war crime and casus belli.
(PS4) What's even more concerning is that this criminal Kremlin adventurism is a component of an attack on the West—the U.S. and NATO—by *several* means, including cyberwar, election interference, espionage, and attempted infiltration of the Republican Party at the highest level.
(PS5) When Tucker Carlson asks, "Why should we care about this? Why should we take [democratic] Ukraine's part over [autocratic] Russia's?" it must be seen in the context of the GOP—including potential POTUS candidates like Carlson—knowing it needs Russian aid to win elections.
(PS6) So whether you read PROOF OF CORRUPTION or something else, it's important to read *something* substantive, and soon, not just about the Russia-Ukraine crisis—which has been devised by Putin for ends that harm America—but about why it is so entwined with *US* politics today.
