And if we’re being honest, it’s bigger than posting the suicide hotline too. The conditions we’re living in must be radically changed if we want to see a significant decrease in suicides
Before folks act ignant, I never said don’t share or post the suicide hotline. I’m sayin that a hotline isn’t enough to save lives in the same way that checking on your strong friend or being kind isn’t enough.
Didn’t expect this tweet to take off like this so I’m adding more info. I was made aware, through comments on this thread, that a top suicide hotline is collecting data from people who contact them & giving it to a for-profit company. 👇🏾
TLDR: Abolish capitalism. Seriously. To radically change the conditions we’re living in requires bringing an end to this capitalist system so we can create a society that actually meets everyone’s needs— allowing more folks to thrive instead of survive.

There’s something to be said about orgs that talk big about accountability but lack both accountability and transparency to the communities they claim to build and work with.
That’s 1 thing I felt strongly about during my time with the bail fund I co-founded. Because it was the community donating to free people, I made sure they knew how much money we had and how that money was spent: getting people out, purchasing care bags, paying bail agitators etc
Everything we say we want in the world we should be practicing in our communities.

Re-watching the last few episodes from S3 of #Ozark to prep for S4 and I forgot how wicked Wendy is. She really had her bro killed.
Ruth called Wendy a “bitch wolf” 🤭.I forgot about that 😂 #Ozark
Darlene a whole sexual predator and she deserves more smoke #Ozark

It’s worth noting that the National Guard (the military) is in Minnesota at the behest of the police. They are there to ensure police & property, not civilians, are safe. They’ve been weaponized, yet again, against Black people living under this oppressive settler colonial state.
The National Guard is making a decision to uphold & enforce racial capitalism & white supremacy. It’s also unsurprising because this is what they do around the world. The military act as an extension of US police in the global south, upholding & enforcing US imperialism.
The same things police do to us here in the United States, the US military does to Black & Brown people all over the Global South. This should never be ignored and we should always make these connections clear.

What mutual aid groups, bail funds & radical orgs do we need to be amplifying out of Minnesota right now?

Reject these lies too yall. We saw this already when police murdered Oscar Grant in 2009. Johannes Mehserle (cop who murdered Oscar) also tried to say he “meant to use his taser”. We’ve been here before!

(Also, tasers can kill people)
“Reuters documented 1,081 cases through the end of 2018 in which people died after being shocked by police with a Taser, the vast majority of them after 2000. At least 32 percent of those who died were Black, and at least 29 percent were white.”

Sharing this because I can already see another avenue for reforms to be pushed by politicians calling for “less lethal weapons”. No. We gotta reject that too. Less lethal is still lethal. People have also died from being tased by police.

In light of Daunte Wright’s murder by police these politicians & police are going to try and tell you that police “need more training”. I can’t urge you enough to reject that. They’ve been getting “more training” for decades. It’s code for: more money.
As someone who was not always an abolitionist and who was deeply reformist and pushed for reforms like body cams, more training etc, I can tell you these things do nothing to disrupt or stop police violence. Ever.
Just as many people around the nation are watching the trial of Dereck Chauvin who murdered George Floyd, Minnesota police murdered a young Black man yesterday miles away from where they stole Floyd’s life.
