I reviewed Dickie Bush's feed to understand how to optimize your growth.

= Thread =
1. No quick hacks

Before we dive in, there are no quick hacks.

Read this Tweet by Dickie to understand deeper.

To succeed on Twitter, you need to provide high-quality, value-added content that entertains consistently.

2. Micro improvements

Incremental improvements to our profile photo, and profile, can result in meaningful changes.

If we consistently provide good content, we want to maximize the return on that content.

There are three particular metrics we will look at for this.
2.1 Impressions / Tweet

The driver of this metric is:

A. The quality of our content
B. The method of engagement

Our goal is to increase our impressions per Tweet over time.

Pay attention to what resonates with your audience, whether:

- Keywords
- Specific content
2.2 Profile Visits / Impressions (%)

Whether someone visits our profile is driven by:

A. The quality of our content
B. Our profile photo

Yes, the quality of our content is essential again, which is why Dickie focused on it above.

A high-quality photo will draw readers in.
2.3 - Followers / Profile Visits (%)

Whether someone converts is where our profile optimization comes through.

For a deep dive into profile optimization, read the below thread.

Now, let's dive through Dickie's profile.
3. Profile analysis

This week, we're looking at the profile of @dickiebush, and we are going to look at:

3.1 Banner
3.2 Profile image
3.3 User name
3.4 Twitter handle
@dickiebush 3.1 Banner

Our banner is our business card.

This one is tricky. I don't see the selling feature.

One of the benefits large accounts have is playing differently.

If new to Twitter, I would optimize your banner to sell you to someone visiting your site.
@dickiebush For those who don't know, Dickie was a football center for Princeton University.

While there, he did a financial engineering degree.

If you know the story, it's cool to see a high-level student athlete's journey; however, you'd have to dig outside Twitter to realize it.
@dickiebush 3.2 Profile image

This is a good image of Dickie.

It does a few things well:

- clear and professional
- Dickie centered in image
- colors in the background

It also is Dickie in front of a ship, and there's more to come on that.
@dickiebush 3.3 User name

Dickie is using his name, which is solid.

He also has a picture of a ship again in this picture.

Last week, in our Save Your Sons account review, we highlighted consistency, and Dickie is nailing that.

@dickiebush 3.4 Twitter handle

This is the consistency we're talking about.

Dickie's Twitter handle is consistent with his username.

When you're able to secure your name, it is beneficial if there is no _ or #.
@dickiebush 4. Bio section

Next, we will review the bio section of Dickie's profile.

4.1 - Bio
4.2 - Location
4.3 - Website link
4.4 - Twitter start date
4.5 - Follower to following ratio
4.6 - Followed by people you follow
@dickiebush 4.1 Bio

The bio is an elevator pitch, which needs to answer:

1. Who your audience is
2. What they need and desire
3. How you can provide what they need
4. Why they should believe you can do it

In short, who is your avatar, what is your content tilt, and your social proof.
@dickiebush Dickie keeps his bio pretty simple.

He talks about digital writing and digital leverage.

He is the Captain of Ship 30 for 30, which we will discuss later.

He tries to be the healthiest, wealthiest, and happiest he's ever been.
@dickiebush If he weren't an established brand, I suggest reformatting the bio to highlight what Dickie provides to his readers, with specific keywords, such as:

- You
- Sharing
- Lessons
- Learning

Our readers care about themselves, not us. They want to know "what's in it for me."
@dickiebush 4.2 Location

Dickie is taking advantage of the location hack, which we recommend everyone do.

Instead of not showing a location or putting your actual site, I recommend using this spot as a call to action (CTA).
@dickiebush 4.3 Website link

Dickie has a website listed.

He also has a website for Ship 30 for 30 in his bio.

Lastly, he also has a personal website, which is his name.

I recommend putting the personal website and adding landing pages for the other two websites on it for consistency.
@dickiebush 4.4 Twitter start date

Dickie joined Twitter in July 2020.

With 149.7k followers, a July 2020 start date provides strong social proof.

If you've had a casual account for a long time, consider starting a new account to increase social proof.
@dickiebush 4.5 Follower to following ratio

Dickie has 149.7k followers.

He is following 451 people.

This is a ratio of 332 : 1.

We recommend you have at least 10 to 1, and Dickie is well above that ratio.

A large follower to following ratio implies you are an expert.
@dickiebush 4.6 Followed by people you follow

When many people you follow are following someone, it provides social proof.

It implies people you value, value this person.

Dickie is followed by 97 people I follow.

This is strong social proof for me.
@dickiebush 5. Pinned Tweet

Your Pinned Tweet is another form of social proof.

It allows your reader to see what you're about.

Some key things:

- recent date
- strong metrics
- brand alignment

✅ Dickie's tweet is three months old.
✅ 4.5k RTs and 18.2k likes.
✅ Dickie writes threads
@dickiebush Dickie is known as a strong thread writer.

To have a well-performing thread as his pinned tweet makes sense.

If you read this pinned tweet, it demonstrates this writing ability and gives you an idea of what to expect from his account.
@dickiebush 6. Ship 30 for 30

Ship 30 for 30 is a cohort-based course teaching you the fundamentals of writing.

Participants write each day for 30 days and publish their writing on Twitter.

You can identify them by the ship in their username.
@dickiebush A community is an excellent way to build out your following.

When you have an army of people you've helped achieve success, they will be your cheerleaders.

This will help you spread your message and broaden the reach of your content.
@dickiebush I have enjoyed researching Dickie's feed, reading his content, and learning from his free content - how to start writing online.

If you aren't already following him, I recommend you do so now.

Next week, we will be reviewing @JamesonCamp profile.

1. What is not changing

Life changes.

Business changes.

The change comes faster and faster.

We need to remind ourselves, and those who work with us, of what is not changing.

Ceretainty reduces fear. Certainty amidst change maintains a level of calm.
2. Skill evolution

When you start your career, you will be focused on technical skills.

If promoted to manager for being technically strong, you will need to learn emotional intelligence.

If promoted to an executive position, you will need to address your blind spots.

1. Long term Thinking

Long-term thinking is listed throughout the Amazon SH Letters (the "Letters") consistently.

The fundamental measure of success for Amazon has always been shareholder value created over the long term.

Decisions at Amazon reflect this focus. Always.
2. Customer focus

Amazon doesn't focus on customers, they obsess over their customers.

Their focus is on offering customers value and efficiency.

The more customers that use Amazon, the more they are able to offer value.

Make decisions with the customers in mind.

29 lessons on how you can:

- Start a content-first business
- Build a massive audience
- Become wildy successful

with little to no money.
In five years, if you tell me the conversation I had with Joe Pulizzi, which informs this thread was the most important conversation I have ever had, Iwould not be surprised.

This conversation was life changing.

Before you go on, please retweet the original tweet. Let's roll.
1. Believe in yourself

Joe talked about starting a business with his wife for years.

Finally, she told him "Look Joe, either stop talking about it or do it just fine. I'm fine with it. But you have to pick, you can't just talk about this forever."

He took a leap of faith.
