Mel Mermelstein is one of the only people to ever successfully take a bogus "I'll pay you to prove me wrong" challenge and get his money - only because he sued the IHR, winning both the "challenge" and additional damages. An absolute hero in every sense of the word.
Such "I'll pay you to prove me wrong" challenges are a hallmark of cranks. They dangle big money to prove things that have already been proven, like evolution or the Holocaust happening. But the "proof" is judged by the crank. And weirdly, they always win. Except this time.
in 2017, RFK Jr. and Robert De Niro teamed up to offer $100,000 to anyone who could "prove vaccines are safe." Well, vaccines are safe, so that's easy money, right?

To my knowledge, they never paid a dime out. But they got plenty of PR for their bogus stunt.
But no bogus challenge will ever top the $11 *trillion* offered in 2008 by the Turkish creationist and cult leader Adnan Oktar for proof that single transitional fossil exists, thereby proving evolution is real. Oktar is spending the next thousand years in prison for sex crimes.

I'm not debunking every lie and mistake in Jim Stewartson's new manifesto. But since he brought this old blog post up AGAIN, it's clear he didn't actually read it. He calls it proof I "hate Hillary Clinton" because the title is "End of the Line for the Clinton Gravy Train."
If he'd read it, he'd know the post is about how HRC leaving politics and Dems retaking the House meant that the giant grift industry around fake Hillary "scandals" would have to focus on something else. Which it did, in the form of QAnon, and later COVID and "stop the steal."
Uranium One was a huge driver of RW media. To think my mention of it in an obscure blog post was "predictive programming" for a virulently anti-HRC conspiracy launching a few days later, while CLEARLY not having read it, is a perfect example of the sloppiness of Jim's "work".

Some news! I'm curating another class for Chapter, featuring articles and videos I've put together, along with my own insights and access for Q&A sessions.

This time around, we're doing pop culture conspiracy theories, focused on four big ones:

getchapter.app/@rothschild/po…
#1 is the persistent theory that Tupac Shakur is still alive and hanging out...in a bunch of different places. We'll talk about why we love dead celebrity sightings, other supposedly still living musicians, and of course, Elvis.
Conspiracy theory #2: Kurt Cobain was murdered on the orders of Courtney Love because he was going to disinherit her. Or maybe it was the CIA. Or someone else. Why do "mysterious deaths" fascinate us, even when there's no real mystery about them?

I wonder where kids who have spent their entire life on the internet are going to find their nudity and profanity now that they can't read MAUS.
When I was in grade school you had to put some work into finding nudity. Someone had to have a magazine, or you babysat and went looking for the stash when the kids were down. You dumpster dived for a skin mag. Now? Tsh. These crusty ninnies have no idea what kids are doing.
This is exactly the "trigger warning/safe space" hysteria that conservatives think liberals wrap themselves in - and they're the ones wrapping themselves in it. Teaching the Holocaust without "depictions of violence"? Are you fucking kidding me? Get out of your pillow fort.

I'm so used to conspiracy theories about the health/death/retirement of SCOTUS justices that it's shocking to see one that's just sort of normal and predictable.
There will, of course, be conspiracy theories. But Breyer is old and wants to get out while Dems still technically have a majority. It's not outlandish at all.
RW infotainment claimed Antonin Scalia was murdered. Liberals thought Anthony Kennedy conspired with Trump and the Federalist Society to pay Brett Kavanaugh's mortgage and get him on the court. Q believers thought RBG was both dead and being kept alive by secret drugs. Fun times.

If you've never listened to an old Art Bell show, this one from June 97 is a corker. It's about the Phoenix Lights phenomenon, and a growing hysteria that something MASSIVE is about to happen linked to Mars and ancient Egypt and NASA.

Bell brings out the all star team to analyze a bizarre sequence of events involving an army convoy, the governor being indicted, a phony recall election, a guy in an alien costume, a bunch of NASA scientists linked to the Mars Pathfinder mission being murdered, and more.
I'm over an hour in, and Face on Mars crank Richard Hoagland is comparing himself to Einstein and AZ legislator Frances Barwood is insinuating that the KGB is taking over Phoenix. Just bonkers.

Bob Saget's death was announced an hour ago, and antivax ghouls are already blaming it on the vaccine. Absolutely demented.
Why give these monsters any attention at all? Because it will be a major right wing talking point tomorrow.
Bob Saget was a vaccine victim, but also apparently a pedo, because all celebs or performers are pedos to these people. Conspiracy theories with one hand, defamation with the other.
