1. Since January 6, 2021 no company has taken a more cynical approach than @Cigna

It started out bad and keeps getting worse

@Cigna 2. After the attack on the U.S. Capitol, @Cigna issued one of the strongest statements

Cigna said the attack transcended "all other matters of public policy"

It pledged to cut off donations to any members who "hindered the peaceful transition of power"

3. @Cigna lasted until FEBRUARY when it donated 15K each to the @NRCC and @NRSC, the umbrella committees that are supporting the reelection of every single Republican objector
4. At the time, @Cigna told Popular.info "In January, our PAC discontinued support of any elected official that encouraged or supported violence on January 6th, and that remains true"

Dropped was any mention of members "hindered the peaceful transition of power"
5. After that, @Cigna began donating directly to Republican objectors. In the first 3 months of 2021, it donated to six members of Congress that hindered a peaceful transition of power by objecting to the certification of the Electoral College

If you read one story today make it this one: "Inside Mississippi’s only class on critical race theory"

It tells the story of a very Republican law student in Mississippi who took a class on Critical Race Theory and learned a lot

The Republican law student was dismayed that, as she was taking the course, Republican politicians in the state were trying to ban it.

Murphree read the bill in disbelief. “The party I associate with,” she concluded, “just doesn’t even know what the truth about this class is.”

1. Zucker is successfully spinning his firing/resignation as a simple matter of failing to disclose a consensual relationship with a subordinate

But that's not the whole story
2. The woman who Zucker was in a relationship with was Allison Gollust, CNN's Chief Marketing Officer.

But one thing I'm not seeing mentioned is that before joining CNN Gollust was THE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR FOR ANDREW CUOMO

Zucker defended CHRIS CUOMO for months after it was revealed he was advising his brother Andrew on how to handle allegations of sexual harassment

1. On Monday, a 10,055 page PDF was quietly filed with the IRS

It revealed that some of the nation's most prominent corporations have sent large donations to the GOP group behind state abortion bans and voter suppression

It takes credit for the fact that the GOP controls "61 of 99 state legislative chambers"

If people want to run for office, I absolutely encourage them to do so

As someone who has done it, however, I can tell you it is not a "crazy impossible thing" but it is a very challenging thing in every possible way

I learned so much doing it

Including that its not for me
As a practical matter, I learned more personally knocking on 10,000 doors than I could have in a lifetime of observing politics from afar.

It's given me a deep and abiding sympathy for all candidates.

You are really putting yourself out there and it's tough
Very few people who write and report about political issues have ever run for office themselves but it helps a lot
