3rd Feb 1959 is often referred to as 'The Day The Music Died'. That's certainly when young Buddy Holly died but in many ways that phrase, when in related to his death, I think should really be the day music was born. On this anniversary, here's a celebration of Buddy Holly >

Two days before his death, a 17 year old Bob Dylan saw him perform. In his Grammy speech for Time Out of Mind Dylan said 'I was three feet away from him... and he looked at me. I just had some sort of feeling that he was...with us all the time we were making this record"
Mick Jagger saw him on his tour of Britain which was the first time he heard Not Fade Away that later would become their first top ten hit. In a 2014 interview Keith Richards said "Holly passed it on via the Beatles and via the Rolling Stones. He's in everybody".
Of course,The first song John Lennon and Paul McCartney recorded was a cover of That'll Be The Day as The Quarymen, which is also the rarest record in existence. The Beatles name came directly from The Crickets and McCartney was such a huge fan he bought Holly's music publishing
Buddy Holly was never known to have played in Fife. If he had I'm sure he would have been greatly received.

As macabre, the troubled producer Joe Meek was a huge fan. So much that they became friends after Holly's death. Meek claimed to communicate with Holly via seances. Sadly, Meek's mental health became so bad that he shot Violet Shenton and himself on 3/2/67

His death also brought about a change in the law. As mind-blowing as it now seems, in 1959 the next of kin were never informed of a death before it was publicly announced. Holly's, Ritchie Valens' and the Big Bopper's families heard the news on the radio.
Speaking of The Big Bopper and the macabre, his body was exhumed in 2007 – by his son. Rumours had flown for years, including that he had survived the initial crash. This dispelled all rumours chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-20…
Despite pioneering work in the field of the music video, The Big Bopper would almost certainly be 'cancelled today for Chantilly Lace.
Ritchie Valens was only 17 when he died. Until she died recently, his girlfriend's number plate was 'RIPRV'. Everyone who loves music should watch La Bamba. It's cheesy but sweet and it's also an incredibly important film in popularising Chicano Rock.
Back to Buddy. His replacement in the Crickets wrote and sang the original version of I Fought The Law and it is EPIC.

...back, but any rock band presenting in the classic rock formation of drums, bass, guitar and singer can trace their routes and and owe a debt directly to Buddy Holly. So today is not the day music died it's the day music was born.

What is confusing to me is why Screen Scotland, on record, when asked about the split said "predominately from Scotland, some are from the south, but most are based in Scotland".This statement does not appear to be based on verifiable data and I'd like to know why it was said?>
If a screen agency have being asked by the news to speak on a very specific subject then surely they would do their homework before hand in order to answer any questions accurately? It is not difficult to obtain very accurate figures, and that is not confidential information.

While its own thing, Spirit of St. Louis could be considered the 7th and 8th side of Sandinista as it was recorded on completion with the same writing, performing, producing and engineering team.
No.8 – The Human League's Dare! and Heaven 17's Penthouse and Pavement. The two rival albums from the core of the original Human League. Huge competition and both excellent but Penthouse and Pavement sounds fresher today, to my ears anyway.
Eddie Cochran is rightly regarded as one of the absolute pioneers of Rock and Roll. His influence on music is immense, as is his influence on fashion – see attached photo for a blueprint of the 80s PopStar. Less widely celebrated are the equally huge talents of Sharon Sheeley
Sharon Sheeley, typical of attitudes facing female musicians in the male dominated Rock world then was most commonly referred to as 'Eddie Cochran's Girlfriend', or worse, simply 'girl'. Who she really was is one of the greatest and most successful songwriters of the 50s and 60s.

It's certainly a great line, and probably true -to an extent - regarding it inspirational qualities anyway. I'm not convinced about it only selling 10-30,000 copies though. Discogs mentions at least 23 presses of the first album in 1967 alone.
