The line spoken by Merimac 'Don't ever, ever, .... call her "The Gund." ', talking about the Stoor matriarch Gundabel, has an amazing connection to a Tolkien deep cut.
One novel feature about the Stoors, for Nori and Poppy, is that they live in holes cut into the canyon walls.
Just by looking at the nickname "Gund", one might be tempted to say it like "gunned", but Merimac says it more like "gooned". This is partly down to the West Country-ish accent the show is using for the Stoors, but there's an amusing parallel with another Tolkien character's name
