@elonmusk @Tesla Tired of sending my feedback to the Tesla FSD Beta e-mail address and sending autopilot videos only for no reply and to see no change in how car handles things. Will just post them here and perhaps someone might see it. #fsdbeta #fsd
#FSDbeta is not beta, or even alpha, and is barely an engineering prototype if we go by standards of hi-tech companies I've worked with/for. First of all, it suffers from a severe regression problem when compared to production software.
But first, a word about where I drive my car. I live in the midwest, a rural area with many state highways that have 55 mph speed limits, T-intersections, and many small villages where speed limits will rapidly change between them. It's clear @Tesla doesn't invest much time here.
The regression and first major problem: since #FSD software disabled my car's radar capability, the car constantly slams on the brakes, EVEN WITH BASIC ADAPTIVE CRUISE. This is most easily seen with oncoming traffic at night, where the car will instantly slow from 65 to 45 mph.
We're not talking about occasional mis-aimed headlights - these are just simply regular oncoming cars on 2-lane highways, usually between towns in the dark. It's especially a problem in the cold weather they don't have in CA where the windshield gets fogged up easily.
The car screams at you with the "forward collision warning" alert and slams on the brakes. I've repeatedly mashed the "autopilot video" button to send data to Tesla, but the problem hasn't gotten better. It also happens with shadows, bad sun angles, and many other situations.
This is going to get me (and the vehicle behind me) wrecked, and no one at @Tesla will answer the e-mails I've sent. And that's not all... when you expand to #FSD behavior, the car makes even more horrible decisions...
First up? I live down a lane road at end of cul-de-sac. #FSD wants to drive into neighbor's yard, despite my lane road being a paved asphalt road just 20 feet to the left of where the car wants to drive into my neighbor's grass. It has NEVER navigated this successfully.
Next, path to my home consists of county roads with no painted lines. #FSD recognizes these roads ok, but there are 2 blind small hills on way to my home - car crests in center of road, not right. Worse, car crests second one on LEFT because of immediate left turn for my street.
Then, I've had to abort #FSD numerous times because car wants to use whole intersection to make left turns with as straight of a path as it can, across oncoming traffic and the left-to-right cross lane at intersection. It will nearly clip cars arriving at the intersection.
Also, #FSD really doesn't understand "T" intersections on 55 mph state highways. It creeps up repeatedly, then will pull out in the path of a close car driving 55 mph, then absolutely FLOORS the accelerator to try to beat it. Meanwhile, I have very angry driver behind me.
Finally, crazy map errors. I live near a highway between 2 villages with 55 limit. No other map service reports as 35 mph, but Tesla thinks this highway has a 35 speed limit between villages. Reported via service, they sent to FSD team, still not fixed nearly 12 months later.
My passengers consider #FSD #FSDbeta a bag of neat parlor tricks but repeatedly tell me that given its behavior, they will NEVER trust anything that is *this* *bad*. They even ask me not to use basic cruise control because of the way the the car slams on the brakes repeatedly.
I'm an early adopter - original Early Access Program, beta Android app, Model S Signature, Model X Signature, so I certainly don't expect perfection. But @Tesla no longer listens to customer feedback, especially ones it depended upon early in product life. Quite insane reversal.
The updates to the @Tesla experience that are non-#FSD have slowed to a snail's pace, Tesla has stopped supporting its older vehicles for even its quirky stuff (I'm sure my cars can do some of the basic light show stuff, but no love for pre-'21 cars.)
Basic features for infotainment aren't there, and the "new experience" is a horrible make-up job that actually makes the experience worse. I used to showcase my @Tesla experience, now I'm eagerly looking for the competition to pick up where Tesla stopped.
I used to spend entire weekends at St. Louis Auto Show (among others) giving free marketing for Tesla. I drove to tell the story, advocating against dealership laws that would limit them. C'mon, you can do better, @Tesla & @elonmusk.
...and one more item I forgot in the thread: #FSDBeta takes a long time to slow the car to speed limits when reduced. Local town goes 55 to 45 to 30 in about 1000 ft, #FSD is still flying 50+ passing the 30 mph limit sign. Must always disengage to slow.
...oh yes, another: in Salem, IL, US highway 50 goes through town in a single lane with unmarked/undivided main street parking on the right. #FSDBeta wants to swerve into parking spots to pass traffic.
A small nit I also neglected: I frequently drive US Route 50, which occasionally gets interpreted as a 50 mph speed limit - so it will randomly drop speed here and there. Seems it should detect the big US highway shield around the "50", but it doesn't...
