1/ A thread on the Simon Leviev timeline. Details, details. 27th September 1990: Born as Shimon Yehuda Hayut into an ultra orthodox Jewish family and grows up in Bnei Brak, outside Tel Aviv.

2/ 2006: Moves to NYC to live with the Chobin family. Lives with them for 6 months, gets told to leave. April 19th-22nd 2008: When the Chobins are away on vacation, Simon is still allowed to borrow their apartment. Misuses a credit card for 42.000 dollars. vg.no/nyheter/i/OnV3…
3/ 2010: Pilot school in Israel. This same year he gets hired as a babysitter for a Tel Aviv-family, works for them for 3 months. Then tries to forge 3 of their checks, according to a later indictment. vg.no/nyheter/innenr…
4/ March 10th 2011: Israeli arrest warrant for the above mentioned checks. Court hearing the day after. Released on bail for 10.000 shekels.
November 26th 2011: Escapes Israel over the Jordanian border with a fake passport under the name Mordechay Nisim Tapiro. Image
5/ January 17th 2012: Indicted in a Tel Aviv court for theft/forgery. When the trial starts in July he's gone. The case is dropped.
February 2012: Meets a UK woman through online matching. Relationship lasts for two years, lives together. She estimates losing 110.000 USD.
6/ Nov 2014: Simon moves to Bangkok, according to the woman mentioned above. She breaks up with him.
Feb 2015: Simon meets a Finnish woman in Bangkok. Travels to Helsinki. Calls himself a businessman and armstrader. This spring he meets 2 other Finnish women, and a Danish women.
7/ Sept 11th 2015: Gets arrested in Finland.
Jan 29th 2016: Found guilty for fraud in a Finnish court, sentenced to 3 years prison. According to the verdict, the 3 women and one of the parents had been defrauded of a total 215.000 USD. Claims he was just borrowing the money.
8/ March 2017: Finnish authorities sends Simon to Israel. The previous Israeli indictment from 2012 gets refreshed. In April he does not show for trial once again, and the same month he changes his name to Simon Leviev.
9/ Spring/summer 2017: According to our research in social media/sources Simon Leviev lives as a free man, while partying in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
October 14th 2017: Our first confirmed date for when Simon Leviev is back in Europe. Meets a woman for a date in Berlin.
10/ Jan 13th 2018: Cecilie meets Simon Leviev on Tinder.
March 20th 2018: Pernilla meets Simon for the first time.
May 21th 2018: Cecilie reports Simon to the Met police. She also reports him to Norwegian police. Nothing happens.
June 20th 2018: Cecilie reaches out to VG.
11/ January 31st 2019: VG reaches out to Pernilla. Two days later we find Simon Leviev in Munich.
February 16th 2019: The original piece about The Tinder Swindler is published.

October 9th 2019: Extradited to Israel.
December 30th 2019: Verdict, 15 months of jail for the 2012 offenses, of which he only serves five months. Image

1/ For those interested in reading about some of #TheTinderSwindler's other victims -- not mentioned in the #Netflix documentary -- we did several stories back in 2019. They can be read quite easily in english by using Google Translate.

1/ Chaos unfolds as newly deported despairing migrants storms back into the airport in Port-au-Prince. Flight crew rushed to lock the doors. Shoes were thrown at the aircraft in desperation.
2/ More chaos and no coordination by Haitian authorities when personal belongings are being dumped on the airstrip.
3/ What’s left on the ground here used to be someone’s personal belongings. “I’ve lost my passport”, says a man that passes by.
