8 Ways to Increase PRODUCTIVITY in 2022

Thread 🧵
In simple terms, productivity describes how efficiently you can get much work done.

After struggling a lot last year to be productive, here are 8 tips that have worked for me since my discovery.

I’m using these tips this year and it’s helping me get work done efficiently.
1. Plan your day a night before.

Everyone has a limited amount of willpower given per day.

The more you use it, the more it gets exhausted.

Planning your day a night before reduces decision fatigue the next morning.

This saves you willpower for the next day.
2. Get enough sleep.

How much is enough sleep?

I think it’s between 6-9 hours.

I have had more energy and increased productivity whenever I had between 6-9 hours of good sleep.

I wake up revitalized and ready for the day- with lots of energy and a positive mood
Having anything below 6 hours gets me exhausted within the day and also has an impact on my mood.

Hence, I’m unable to complete most of my tasks.
3. Focus modes & Task prioritization.

I prioritize my tasks from the most important to the least important. Then I further group them from the most difficult to the easiest.

I like to tackle the most difficult & most important first.

Why? 👇🏾👇🏾
Because I just woke up and have lots of energy to spare.

What if a task is too difficult for me to complete?

After I have spent about 25-30 minutes on a task with no progress, I take a break between 5-15 minutes.

When I return, I shuffle between easier tasks.
It helps to get done as much as I can.

Then I return back to the difficult task to try and finish it up.

Now? I may have had fresh air and some diffused mode to re-attack.

When a task is free flowing, I spend about 30 minutes to 120 minutes before I take a break.
I must confess sometimes you get so absorbed you forget how much time has passed by. 😅
4. Turn off distractions.

For me, it’s turning off my mobile phone.

When I’m working, I have the habit of checking my notifications and drifting away in time wasting.

This happens unconsciously.

Problem is solved when the phone is off.

Like today…
I was programming and decided to take my phone to fidget.

Immediately I realized it was off.

I put it back down & focused on my work.

For you, turning on “ DO NOT DISTURB” may work perfectly.

Find out what works for you. Maybe you need to lock your phone in the next room
5. Take breaks.

Breaks are important so take them- 5-15 minutes stops where you give yourself space to move around.

Focus on something other than your work screen.

Check out a scenery.

Just focus on something other than your work.

Be sure to move around. Stretch legs.
6. Self imposed deadlines

When the deadline to submit a work is 7 days from today, I now have the habit of setting the time to 5 days.

After that, I divide the work to be done into those 5 days and start working on it.

It helps me cover much work. Idk how but it does.
7. Ask for Help!

Put your pride aside and ask for help when you’re stuck.

This helps you complete tasks faster.

That doesn’t mean delegate all the work to somebody else 😹

For example: I’m programming and I get stuck and can’t find answers to my problem on Google? 👇🏾👇🏾
I quickly reach out to a group of friends.

Bingo! Leah knows the answer.

I can rectify the problem and move on instead of spending hours moaning over it.

Sometimes I find the answer to the problem myself as a colleague takes me through.

A random word and you catch it.
8. Immerse yourself into a community.

This may sound weird but do it. Have a community of same minded people.

I started playing COD mobile despite my disinterest in mobile games because 2 of my friends repeatedly played together.

Same way for work.
I’m able to do programming and not lose interest because there’s the #100Devs community.

When I see tweets from people about their progress, struggles, achievements etc, I’m motivated to keep climbing my own mountain.

Find a community. It helps keep you accountable.

Here’s a real life story my dad told me. Thread.

Orphaned at a young age, he and his elder brother were sent to live with an uncle. This uncle also had 3 male kids. They all lived together in the house.

[1/8]
One day, this uncle hid his money and it got missing.

He lined up all the kids in the house & asked them who had taken the money he placed in the cardboard. Nobody owned up. He trusted his kids so much that he believed none of them took it.

[2/8]
He decided to make whoever stole that money pay for what he did. For he had planned to use that money for something important.

But the method he had chosen to punish the person by was a gruesome one.
