Also completely forgot to comment on the flower thing. I've said before the flower represents beauty and it's stained by blood(cruelty). In Zeke's instance it could be that he is trying to wash away the cruelty.
(Now I will get a little more metaphorical and it's more of a HC)
But the thing he doesn't see is that the blood doesn't disappear, it goes to the flowers roots & impacts how the flower will grow.
This would resemble how bad/traumatic experiences impact the person growing up.
