Can we talk about how white mediocrity gets to thrive and Black Excellence is scrutinized and doubted? #Peloton#PelotonCEO A Trill Thread… For #BlackHistoryMonth
So John Foley is the recently ousted CEO of @onepeloton And with his exit is the massive layoff of actual competent employees, human beings who work to live and support themselves. Don’t yet know how much Foley’s exit package was but unless he is a complete buffoon, he’s not
missing meals or trips anytime soon. Meanwhile, over on LinkedIn folks posting the #SeekingNextOpportunity 🤦🏿♀️ One of my connects is a husband with a new baby. I was heart broken to see his post. Meanwhile, I’m sent this information 🤬:
Now juxtapose this with the recent backlash from @POTUS pledging to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court. Let’s start with the ignorance from my home state (Yay Texas 🤬):
@SenTedCruz basically reminded us all that whiteness believes that any Black person considered for a job (especially a prestigious role) in order to intentionally drive for racial diversity and balanced representation, that person must not be the most qualified👀
But we all know that NO Black person can get a job like Supreme Court Justice without being over qualified and more qualified than the vast majority of other candidates. But alas, here we are:
And even when someone tries to make it right, whiteness just won’t allow it…. Because Never in the beginning of affirmative action did a Black candidate chosen be “not as well qualified” but okay🤷🏿♀️@LindseyGrahamSC
But @LindseyGrahamSC may have a point…. Because the vast majority of people who benefit from any type of affirmative action are white women… I mean look at Amy Coney Barrett… prove to me she was the best qualified…👀
Meanwhile mediocre John, Bob and Mike get to thrive. They get all the benefit of the doubt and all the chances to fail forward…. And thrive on sheer “unbridled optimism”
So as long as a white man works with/interacts with Black people then he can’t be racist👀🤦🏿♀️ by this logic none of the founding fathers were racist… and I guess Thomas Jefferson was deeply in love with Sally Hemings also… forget the fact he mortgaged her … small detail.
