What are the vacancies that Chennai will look to fill come this Mega Auction?
Our take on how CSK are likely to approach this auction philosophy wise
Reduced exposure on players in late 30s and more focus on grooming the ones in early 20s?
Analysing the Vacant Slots One by One!
1. 'Gaikwad's Opening Partner' - We have analysed multiple options who Chennai should look at
Top Targets: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow
Budget Alternative: Rahul Tripathi
2. The second Vacancy which needs attention is having a 'No.4, preferably a right-hander'
We all know the value Moeen Ali gives at No.3 and him being a LHB means the temptation to get someone like a Shreyas Iyer or Deepak Hooda is too high in our opinion!
3. The third vacant position merits a look at 'A middle order hitter at No.5' and an Indian who is not just a local for Chennai but also shares his name with a very famous celebrity and a franchisee owner is someone who we feel could just be the answer CSK is looking for
4. Fourth Vacancy that the CSK management will be looking to fill in is that of a 'Death Specialist'
Top Targets – Harshal Patel, T Natarajan
Backup – Marco Jansen
Vacancy 5 and 6 cover 'New Ball Specialists' and the options being discussed here include
A. Deepak Chahar
B. Josh Hazlewood
C. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
D. Trent Boult
E. Jason Holder
F. Shiva Mavi
G. Chetan Sakariya
H. Tim Southee
7. 'Wrist Spin All-Rounder' is the 7th Vacant Spot in our analysis with Hasaranga and Rahul Tewatia as 2 options worth considering in our opinion
Also covered here is a Batsman who we feel CSK might just help to revive his career.
Any guesses?
Our analysis for Chennai ends here and we would love to hear your views on the same.
Do let us know who your picks would be if you were at the auction table and battling with the problems we mentioned above
It's going to be an important auction this one as it is often tipped to be that one final time that the teams will be allowed a pool so large to look at!
@IndianMourinho will lead this segment as we look to break down possible strategy team wise!
In a mini auction, it is easier to predict what teams will go for, as they would usually have 7-8 locked spots and hence are looking for very specific player types.
In a mega auction, however, with a max of 4 locked spots, every team needs pretty much everything.
So the only way to predict what a team will be going for in an auction like this is by basing it on what it has done historically & on what type of players the captain/coach of the team believes in
We will begin this analysis with Mumbai & the thread will go live at 8pm tonight!
