Regardless of where you stand on any political, military or personnel issue in the @IRLCoDF report the major takeaway should be taken from Recommendation 11 on page XV of the Executive Summary that in fancy Gov speak translates as

Ahh lads... Be Grand is not a policy

#FundtheDF
HELL YEAH! Tackle the state of national cyber infrastructure and develop capabilities to combat Hybrid Warfare hint hint NGW 😉 #FundtheDF
Given the childish and naive nature of the conversation in Ireland, this is a poor choice of words... But an understandable one since the Battle Rifle we use, the Styer AUG uses STANAG 4172 ammunition in STANAG 4179 magazines with STANAG 4694 accessory rails #FundtheDF
Though I can imagine that thought being lost on a lot of people... Even those who believe we should move closer to Russia, who in their latest Battle Rifle, the AK-12, use STANAG 4694 accessory rails, not to mention using a knock off US Army style EOTech sight #FundtheDF
Ohh and what do you know... Here's a Chinese PLA QBZ-191 and it has STANAG 4694 accessory rails! And here's a PLA soldier with a QBZ-191 and mounted on it looks like an EOTech HHS III with a G33 Magnifier... How very NATO of them #FundtheDF
It's almost like good ideas travel around the world, regardless who discovered them... #FundtheDF
Anyways... Back to the report... It's almost like what people have been saying for a long time isn't just this wild idea but things that should be done... Weird how that works out #FundtheDF
It's also shocking and is a real inditement of the state of things when one of the recommendations is to literally do that thing you said you would do in 2014 and again said you would do in 2019 and yet... Here we are in 2022 saying to do that thing #FundtheDF
Here's a fun chart I found trying to figure out how the force structure mentioned in Recommendation 16 works because it's not exactly clear how we have a Joint Cyber Command and then a Joint Forces Command when there is no mention of subordination of control
OMG THANK YOU! I tried to explain this problem to my TD's a decade ago, more even now and it flew over their heads... Like they completely didn't comprehend any of it... Also having a J2 with An Garda Síochána is great! Remove rivals and make allies #FundtheDF
While we at it... Can we go back and put Section 9(2d) of the Treasonous Offences and Terrorism Bill, 2022 (Amended) back in? Seems like a good idea to make advocating for a coup a treasonous offence trello.com/c/hYkGpa1o
This is so simple yet... So beautiful! Learn lessons from where others have been impacted and work to prevent it from happening here or mitigate what we can't prevent because we are a wonderful free society
There are FOUR sections on the massive issues that the employees of the DF face titled *People as the Defence Forces’ Key Strategic Resource* + it runs across 42 pages. That's 28% of the entire report on just issues facing the people who work in the DF

Great title btw #FundtheDF
And these are basic issues that anyone working at any organisation from the Bakery down the road from me to my friends working for massive multinationals have, but the DF lacks like Career Progression, Training, Promotion, Culture, Diversity, Grievance
Processes #FundtheDF
Family Friendly Measures, Flexible Working
Arrangements, Working Time Directive, so you aren't the soldier who worked for 24 hours, barely sleeping, so he could get his son to the doc and pick up his daughter, all for a paltry 26 quid

#FundtheDF
Beyond a joke fails to cover it! It's asking the Gov to follow it's OWN LAWS like the Organisation of Working Time Act and the National Minimum Wage Act #FundtheDF
Some of it is beyond comprehension! HIQA doesn't cover the medical services of the DF... There is no quality assurance for the medical care received by personnel, as required under the Health Act 2007!?

I think if found my generation's GUBU #FundtheDF
GUBU for those that aren't familiar is "Grotesque, Unbelievable, Bizarre and Unprecedented" and there's a whole story behind that but Iack the time today to get into it
Imagine living in a country where you need a report to tell the Government of this country to follow Article 1 of its own Constitution,
Seriously... An Bunreacht na hÉireann literally reads as follows irishstatutebook.ie/pdf/en.cons.pdf

That literally reads in plain English as our Sovereignty is incapable of being surrendered and that it cannot be annulled

How can we be a Sovereign State if we can't protect ourselves?
The sun has come out so I'm gona go for a long walk, think about this some and come back to this later... Because I'm only on page XXVI of the Executive Summary...

But also #FundtheDF

Good news! I finished my reference notes for my Cyber War Is Boring talk at @BSidesDublin. It's intended to be a reference doc as it's 19,958 words, but it covers my thinking and more background than I had time to go into! Enjoy 😁blog.cyberwarfa.re/iw-bsides-dub-…
So what kinda optional extras are in there? There's some international law, such as how to maybe eliminate Russian Ransomware with Drones, a brief history of Crypto, Japanese Cyber Warfare in WW2, a discussion on models to view Information Warfare though, SO MUCH MALWARE
Dead Russian Generals, The Ghost of Hostomel, the Spot the Army Game, radio nerd things, intercepts, even more on defensive efforts and piles and piles of links to other things worth your time, if this is your jam

So on the Commission on the DF... I could go on with the thread I started but I won't

There are 3 issues though unmentioned in depth;
1. Paying for it
2. Neutrality
3. Arms Control

What I do know is that it's time to talk to yiser TD's to #FundtheDF
I have a ton I want to talk about like APC's without Level 4 armour which is a fucking disgrace, issues around air and sea control, new artillery i.e. getting rid of the 25-pdr which is older than your grandparents, the jets and long range transports, not to mention the cyberz
But realistically, I can't form good opinions on a document of such depth in just the first 6 hours of it's publication...

So how about talking about what to do now that we have the report and what is missing in a major sense? #FundtheDF
