The meeting is starting with the chair asking to defer the decision on the trustee determination process to the next board meeting. The issue that prolonged the meeting last night.
Trustee Mahmood asking what's the plan between now and the next meeting to avoid delays at the next meeting.
Response: a supplementary, smaller meeting is being planned for trustees to discuss the plan with consultants again.
Debate now happening about whether a further delay will help.
The motion passes, they will delay the decision to March.
Now a question from Trustee Nathan about the Integrity Commissioner's expenditures. Specficialy when the trustees will be getting a year to date breakdown.
The response that they are working on a date for a report.
This is the 3rd year in a row where trustees have asked for the report and have only received it once according to Trustee Nathan.
145 schools have submitted proposals for the Parent Reaching Out Grant this year.
Now onto the Renaming of the Unnamed Elementary School in the City of Markham.
"the local Trustee is recommending Nokiidaa Public School for the renaming of the former elementary school in Markham."
"Nokiidaa is the Ojibwe word meaning ‘Let’s Work Together’ (nokii - to work; daa - let’s do this; together is understood in verb modifier)."
Trustee Lynn extending thanks to Trustee Hoeg for her support and guidance in the process.
Trustee Hoeg thanks Trustee Lynn for his work in this renaming. Also indicates that healing is an important part of this process. This name helps provide that healing.
Now onto the Director’s Action Plan: Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Strategy Report
A video on celebrating Black excellence is being played, you can watch the full video here:
A couple of highlights from the report:
1) All supervisory officers must have a goal in their appraisals connected to the strategy. 2) The board will continue to build racial literacy among teachers. 3) Student led dismantling anti-Black racism initiatives.
4) Ensuring Black history is part of the curriculum.
And the meeting is adjourned.
(Was that the longest board meeting on record?)

We're all here because we all want quality public education.
We learned this year that if we're going to have any success in having strong public education in Ontario it has to be a combined effort.
Last year proved that community connections are essential to protect schools.
