I owe you guys a story.

I committed the cardinal sin this week of sharing some opinions about something I thought was important. But you only want me shut up and dribble. Naturally.

Lucky for us, something wild happened last night. To unlock the story this post needs 100 RT's
...and with that. It's story time. Gather round kids because this really happened. Just yesterday in fact. I thought about changing the names of the innocent, and the guilty, but who gives a shit?
About 3pm yesterday I took a call at the Wynn. But my passenger wasn't there. I called the rider named Peter who informed me they were walking over from the shopping mall to meet me. Minutes later, Peter and a attractive lady climbed in. She was hot, and a tad drunk, he was ok...
This ride was more or less normal. He had a weird accent I couldn't put my finger on. I thought maybe Swedish but I was wrong about that. But he said he'd lived in Houston for 20+ years. She was pretty zonked out the entire ride. 10 minutes later I dropped them off at the Westin.
I dropped them off at the Westin and actually said "make sure you have everything" as I always do and I drove off. I drove to the Linq to wait for another fare and that was when I noticed the cell phone in the backseat. Complete with multiple credit cards and an ID in the pouch.
Those of you who have been following for a while can probably imagine where this is headed. But if you're unaware, it's not uncommon to find items in your car after you drop people off and it's almost always annoying. Which is why I always say, "make sure you have everything."
I picked the phone up andnof course it's locked so I can't call anyone on it. But I always try to return phones because you can generally earn some extra cash for your troubles. I considered going back to the Westin to try to find them but instead of that wild goose chase...
...I elected to just report it found through the Uber app so they could contact Peter via the app and give him the abilty to contact me directly so we could meet up to exchange the phone. There's nothing else I can do with it now. The phone is locked. Katie's phone. It's locked.
So I filed the report via Uber and went back to work. That's all there is to do for now.
I was planning on working into the night so chances are Peter will receive the message via Uber and contact me before I call it quits. But before that happened, about an hour later, Katie's phone rang, it was a facetime call...
I was driving and had a passenger at the time but I figured I might not have another chance to get in touch with Katie so I apologized to my rider and promptly answered the phone, mask and all. The caller ID said the name was Dan...
When the video popped up on the screen Dan was startled to see me as you might imagine. But once I explained I was an Uber driver and recently found the phone he was cool, and appreciative that I was tending to it. "That's my wife's phone," he said. "She's in #Vegas for work."
Dan asked where I took her and I said the Westin and he informed that she was staying there. He asked me if I could just return the phone to the Westin and leave it at the front desk but I didn't want to leave it with a stranger, especially since credit cards and ID where w/ it.
In hindsight I probably should've just left it at the front desk.

But I gave Dan my number and said he should try to call her room and have her call me directly on my phone. Dan said good idea and that was how we left it. I purposely didn't elaborate on the other things I saw..
I've been doing this business in #Vegas for a long time, seen lots of things. Heard many more. And I've learned that minding your own business is what's best. It's also just my personality anyway. I'm not here to make judgments or meddle in other's affairs. I'm just a wheel man.
Besides, I could only speculate as to what was really going on with his wife, and though it looked bad, I didn't really *know* anything. Still, I couldn't help but feel bad for Dan. He seemed like a solid dude. This was a tough spot. Especially when he sent me this first text... Image
You'll notice after the first text at 4:34 I never responded. That was because I was busy driving. But really it was because I didn't know what the fuck to say to Dan. Before the 2nd text, around 5:30, Katie's phone rang again with a FaceTime call from Dan. Sigh. I answered it.
We talked for a bit and I tried to play it cool but he knew I wasn't telling him everything. To his credit he asked for my Venmo so he could take care of me for helping. I really appreciated that. And that, you could say, was when #TeamDan was born.
So, I told Dan I didn't care to be in the middle but man to man, I wasn't going to lie to his FaceTime. So I told him everything that I'd seen. He asked if there was any touchy-feely, and there wasn't. But it was my impression that they were a couple. I didn't know any different.
Dan told me that his wife had cheated on him before. Oh boy. In light of all of the other evidence it's definitely not looking good right now. Man this sucks. Why do I have to be the bearer of bad news? I'm still a wheel man. I let Dan go, told him I'd keep him in the loop.
Not long after our conversation Dan texted me that he thinks he knew who she was with. And not long after that Katie's phone rang again. This time it was a regular phone call and the caller ID said "Jessica." So I answered it. And it was Katie...
Me: "Hello?"
Katie: "Hi do you have my phone?"
Me: "Um, I'm talking to you on it?"
Katie: "Oh right, can you bring it back to the Westin?"
Me: "Sure. Maybe it's best if you take down my number and text me, so I can call you when I'm there."
Katie: "ok"

So Katie has my number now
I was in Henderson at the time but figured I'd be back around the Strip soon. And sure enough not long after I got a ride going to Bellagio. It was getting close to the time when I'd be dropping the phone back. I texted Dan with the update. Image
More texts with Dan. I thought Dan's question was a little too forward and suspicious for the Uber driver to ask so I came up with a better idea I think... Image
Girls tend to be particular about these things. If I say, "how's your boyfriend?" And that isn't her boyfriend, you can expect her to refute the idea that that's her boyfriend. If however she says nothing, well, there you go..
So Dan liked my idea about what question fo ask her. Then he asked me if I would be willing to make a video of the exchange and I'm full on #TeamDan at this point so I'm like absolutely doing that. Image
By this time I'd picked up 2 golfers in Henderson headed to the Bellagio and Dan and I had a plan about what to say to Katie when I dropped off her phone. Also by this time Katie had text me from Jessica's phone so I could contact her. So I let her know that I'd be there soon... Image
I dropped off the golfers at the Bellagio and headed to Westin. Before pulling into Westin I situated my phone and started recording. And when I pulled up I couldn't believe what I saw. Or, who I saw rather. And well, you can watch the video yourself...
Shit. This is not looking good for Dan. Katie doesn't even show up to get her own phone? Instead sends her ..co worker down to get it? I don't know about all that. That is something you'd have your boyfriend do though. Also thanks for that tip Peter, you cheap fuck. #TeamDan
Now it gets worse because I have to tell Dan the bad news. Why do I always have to be the bearer of bad news. I think he took it pretty well though. "Wow." ImageImage
The video file was so big I couldn't text it to Dan even after I resized it. That's why I uploaded it to Twitter last night, strictly so I could send the link to Dan. So Dan has my twitter now and it's likely he's going to see this thread. Everybody here is with you Dan. #TeamDan
Finally got the video to Dan. And perhaps you figured it out already... But when Katie called me on her phone, we could reason she was calling me from Peter's phone. Right? But the caller ID said "Jessica." Cabbie Detective. I felt like I needed to point that out to Dan. ImageImage
After I spoke to Katie on her phone, she immediately texted me on my phone like I asked. And when I text that number to say I'd be at the Westin in 5 minutes, when I got there it was Peter. This means Peter is saved in Katie's phone as Jessica. There's only one reason you do that
By this time it was time for me to call it quits. I apologized to Dan and went home. All day today I've been thinking about contacting him, maybe get an update for your sake. But that's fucked up. I did decide to tell him thanks because he sent me $100 on Venmo. Image
Maybe I'll save Dan's number and text him again down the road. Or maybe I'll just tell him to contact me if he's ever in #Vegas so I can buy him a beer. Or maybe I could even give him a ride if he needs one. Because after this is all said and done, I'm just a wheel man. -Fin

Something really funny just happened. I had a solid belly laugh for at least a minute. Picked up this little old Asian woman. Couldn't have been 5 ft tall, and she tripped and fell on the sidewalk while walking to my car. But that wasn't the funny part...
I immediately got out and ran around to help her up. I held her hand and walked her over to the car and threw her bag in the trunk for her. We were on the east end, going to Lake Mead and somewhere. I think she was Filipino, but that wasn't the funny part either...
On our way we approached a stoplight at Lamb & Vegas Valley. It's one that has a big dip at the intersection, that you'll wreck your car if you don't slow down for, and my light turned yellow at the worst possible moment. I'm too far away to go but I'm pot committed. So I go.
