Guess who has now been restricted from posting on facebook for 3 days because as soon as I posted on @facebookapp@Meta I was restricted again for posting an update about our #Comanche wordle… #EndangeredLanguage
…I included 1 sentence in Comanche on the 3rd post (“Someone is smart”) & it was flagged as solicitation of sexual activity. I am posting about Comanche, a CRITICALLY ENDANGERED LANGUAGE with fewer than 10 speakers, & sharing resources for our tribal members. #IndigenousMe
I’m not sure how to go about getting this fixed. @finkd Facebook @Meta is a very valuable tool for our tribal government to communicate and share language learning resources with our tribal members all over the world… #sovereign#languagewarrior
And if @Meta ‘s algorithm keeps flagging posts about our language and our resources as violations of community standards and especially as solicitation of sexual activity and nudity, etc. (again, gross) without anyway to resolve the issue then 🤷🏽♀️ @sarahshulist
Critically endangered languages have to surmount incredible odds to survive, Indigenous languages doubly so, and we need support from those who profit from the systems that created this situation in the first place,… #languageback
& I’m challenging @Meta to step up to the plate to create a plan of action to support language reclamation work so that this isn’t an issue for anyone else. #onthewordpath
Until then, I’ll be on here and on IG both as @numutekwa
Had to break out the bird account to say @Meta and @facebookapp keep tagging my posts about the Comanche Language, a critically endangered language, as sexual solicitation. Your review team “works in many languages”, right. Not mine. #comanche#endangeredlanguage#IndigenousMe
We, like many other Indigenous languages in the world, have been impacted by colonialism & we are fighting with every breath we take to recreate our speaking communities and cultural activities, in some cases with fewer than 10 birth speakers and sometimes, no speakers left.
And for our posts to be tagged and flagged by an algorithm that thinks because it can’t understand our languages that we are soliciting sex when we are sharing resources for our people to use to learn and get them engaged with our languages is a slap in the face @finkd
