OFSTED INSPECTION #tips 1. Be ready for that phone call, it really is important that what you say on it is accurate. Most of the time was spent checking out what we said. Day 1 - between 4 and 6 deep dives (we did 5 in a 2 form primary). Fully lead by the subject leaders……
2. Early reading absolutely non negotiable. Talked to reading lead/phonics lead, spent lots of time in lessons Nursery - Y6, book scrutiny with subject leaders. Then heard children read, spoke to children about love of reading and observed Storytime. This took a full day
3. Subject leaders followed the same pattern - meeting with leader about curriculum (loads and loads of questions about it), observing lessons, book checks, speaking with children, speaking with teachers. Teachers asked about sequencing of curriculum, CPD and strength of leaders
4. Safeguarding, behaviour and attendance wound around day 1 and day 2. All pretty obvious questioning around this, but did ask for training logs, LOADS of analysis around behaviour/suspensions, attendance light touch due to pandemic
5. Personal development pretty much whole of the second day. Lots of Qs about why we do what we do for the context, how we alter our provision for SEND/PP where needed, how we spend PP money for PD, wanted to see how we explicitly teach this, and evidence of character development
6. Checked alternative provisions - they even visited them with a member of our staff. Back to reasons why we use and how it links to personal development/curriculum. SEND learning walk to look at matching of provision and adjustments
7. Curriculum was absolutely at the heart of the inspection. CPD, well-being added on. Observed lunchtime, break time. Spent some time in EYFS but far less than previous framework.
