1/9 February 14 marks the Annuall Memorial March in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls & 2SLGBTQQIA. It is also a day to lift up grassroots efforts, the voices of survivors of violence, communities and family members who have lost loved ones to this genocide.
2/9 This is an important day to demonstrate our strength, resiliency and collective power in the face of systems, rooted in colonial violence, that continue to place us at greater risk for violence.
3/9 Unfortunately, our voices have often been met with inaction and sometimes apathy from authorities who have the power to act, but fail to do so, as if our life or loss of life is of no significance
4/9 As we witness the current illegal occupation in Ottawa, it is becoming more clear to the public that systems designed to protect us are riddled with biases, racism, & white supremacy. This was noted by the National Inquiry Into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and girls.
5/9 In spite of these struggles, we continue to stand in strong resistance to seek justice, change systems, and elevate our voices. We do not stay silent in the face of colonial violence; may it be passive or aggressive, to let the world know that we are here, and we are loved.
6/9 And that our daughters, sisters, mothers, and aunties are sacred and loved. We affirm that our lives are of equal value, even though we receive constant reminders from authorities and political powers that we are not.
7/9 This has allowed us not only to survive, but in some cases thrive because we are descendants of powerful ancestors whose resiliency has gifted us with the ability to walk gently on our beautiful Mother Earth.
8/9 As we March today or find other ways to honour our sisters, aunties, grandmothers, daughters, and 2SLGBTQQIA relatives, let us send our love to those recovering from the impacts of violence, relatives we continue to search for, and eternal power to those we have lost.
9/9 We will not be silenced, marginalized, or abused. We are powerful in all our beauty and strength. Solidarity and love

1/7 (thread) This is not a peaceful protest. It is an illegal occupation and the use of the Canadian Charter by those in positions of authority to justify inaction is problematic.
2/7 Invoking Charter Rights does not give individuals or groups the right to break the Rule of Law , which includes respecting court injunctions, by-laws, and the rights and freedoms of others.
3/7 And the fact that those in positions of authority are unable to uphold their own Rule of Law, even with court injunctions in place, is highly disturbing in the face of this illegal occupation.

1/5 The occupation is not a working-class uprising, and in fact, is anti-worker. 1,500 retail workers have been impacted at the Rideau Centre after the mall was forced to close due to extreme harassment by maskless occupation participants.
2/5 Polo park is also under similar threat in light of the maskless protest planned to take over the mall, which could potentially result in workers having to go home, in turn losing pay.
3/5 Moreover, truckers (90% of whom are vaccinated) are stranded at border crossings because of the blockades impacting their ability to do their job and forcing Ford, Toyota and GM plants to shut down for the week impacting workers ability to earn a living.

1/4 This is not a peaceful occupation of tricks and vehicles. It is harming residents in downtown Ottawa, my constituency of Winnipeg Centre, and elsewhere in Canada. We have even witnessed harassment of staff and clients at the Women’s Health Clinic in downtown Winnipeg.
2/4 Organizers have been talking about driving slowly in circles around Ottawa schools, a Steinbach school went into lockdown yesterday due to anti-mandate protests outside. Constant honking (including a train horn in Winnipeg) that’s akin to sonic torture.
There has been Constant honking, akin to sonic torture and the use of racist, xenophobic, anti-Semitic, homophobic behaviour, has been accepted and supported by occupiers. They have now taken hold of orange shirt day without support of the family. This is totally disgusting.
