Some patterns I’ve seen in people who are Outliers, incredibly high performers in their areas, specifically in tech or finance.

While these don't apply to all people or other fields, they're interesting to note & may make a few of you feel a bit more "normal." A thread. 1/
Internal distaste for authority.

They may not be outwardly rebellious, but it’s clear that they would not respond well being told what to do or how to think.

While many are happy to tick off the boxes, these folks take pride in being independent in this way. 2/
Don’t fit in.

Though they may be seen as cool now, they were likely not the “cool kids” in high school, and have always felt a little different.

Their interests might not have lined up with what others were really into, and it made them feel on the outside of things. 3/
Talent + Hard work.

While they work hard, they also have natural talent. This is not “hard work beats talent,” it is talent working hard.

This is a frequent combination that elevates them into another level… bc they’re building on a baseline that is already exceptional. 4/
Skew introvert.

This isn't always the case, but they’re often perfectly content to explore ideas & work alone in a room as their happy place.

It’s not sad, it’s challenging and brings great satisfaction. The harder parts are often the people parts. 5/
Follow their own beliefs over accepted common knowledge.

What they can/can’t do, what is/isn’t possible.

They don’t say “okay” and accept it, they push - often quietly, the boundaries that challenge other’s thinking. 6/
Carry frustration.

They are often deeply frustrated by the things others don’t get that are clear to them.

This is a blessing and a curse and can make them look arrogant when they’re not. It can make them hard on others in leadership (founder) roles. 7/
This isn't science - they're just things I’ve seen over & over again from the work I do in those fields specifically.

Saying that, people can be incredibly successful and never be an outlier - but when you see it, these are the traits that tend to stand out. 8/fin

Your future self is built on what you do today.

Here are 6 things that sound easy, but set up a great life ahead.

Do them right in your 20s & 30s? Even better. 1/
Set Your Priorities. Life passes quickly - if you don’t know what you want, you’ll never get it.

Having priorities helps you make choices that guide what you focus on… Passive income? A family? Business ambitions?

Priorities set your course. Make them specific & clear. 2/
Direct your Money, Intentionally. Don’t let cash just flow through your hands - direct it.

Pay off debt, learn about investing & direct dollars. Don’t have your head in the sand because it’s “boring” or seems hard.

Do it now & You’ll look like a rockstar one day. 3/

There is very little Genius out there - and the world is *not* often ruled by those who are.

It is usually ruled by people who are exceptional at *something,* and leverage that thing to great heights.

Here are 3 things you’ll see in these people & how to use them. 1/
1. Repetitive Flex. They know…not what they’re “good at,” but what they’re “great at.”

It looks like they win at *everything,* but it’s really the same skills repeated over & over - watch for it.

Finding those areas in yourself & new ways to use them is key. 2/
2. Exceptional Confidence in your Exceptional Areas.

They don’t undersell themselves, shy from it, or keep that area hidden. It's awareness & digging in.

They pull away from *every other task* that doesn’t leverage their gifts.

At a certain level, you should too. 3/

We each carry Versions.

Ways of operation & parts of who we are that we know exist, but keep from the world.

The Challenge:
- Test yourself.
- Shed your skin

Bring your ideal version of yourself forward for 24 hrs. 1/
It's just 24 hours - actually push through the crap.

The procrastination, the hesitation, the risk aversion.

Be your best version - someone who takes action, gets things done, or takes the chance.

Be that person, that version of yourself.
See what happens. 2/
You will commit to step into...even if briefly, the person you want to be.

Act "as if" you are already this person, because a part of you actually is:
- Dress for it, talk like it, and show up.

What would they be doing at the meeting?
How would they handle this situation? 3/

Exposure is one of the most important building blocks of success, and if you’re already doing well, exposure is a cheat code to more of it.

Exposure to different people, experiences, mindsets and unlocks.

It expands you.
But where do you get it? 1/
You can get it in person. Going to events, conferences, and being in those rooms.

Ex: Places like @Reconvene hosted by @moseskagan for real estate - I’ve heard incredible things.

Have conversations, learn from others, level up, and share. 2/
Absorb Books/Newsletters.
Biographies, Autobiographies, and some great newsletters out there.

Ex: @AyeshaSelden has a newsletter that will build you from the ground up in approachable finance insights - great stuff.
I've got one on mindsets.

Always be reading. 3/

Something easy to examine and hard to shift, are your beliefs.

What you believe sets the path of how you engage with the world around you, in every possible way.

Here are 5 core beliefs to review. 1/
1. Beliefs around Capability. When it comes down to it, what do you really think you can do?

What can you learn, overcome, how much can you push through, and how determined do you see yourself?

What you believe you can tackle & do, sets the stage for everything else. 2/
2. Beliefs around Money. Do you fear it, resent it, avoid it, see it as separate from you or limited?

Ex: If you resent wealth, you won't gravitate toward things you hate.

If you believe money is plentiful & available for the taking with a variety of paths? You’re in. 3/

Natural Talent is a cheat code to extraordinary success...but it's not a given.

Here are 9 things that can sink even the most talented people. 1/
1. Blame. Externalizing reasons for why things won't work out is a flag.

The people who will win, understand it rests on no one but them.

Endless excuses will crush success potential.

Be a Solver
Someone who believes they can figure it out, even against the odds. 2/
2. Not Executing...Consistently.

You can have the best ideas in the world, but if you don’t actually do something about them, you won’t go anywhere.

Great talent isn't dormant - it moves.
Be a doer. 3/
