Rodney Joffe campaign donation to Heather Wilson for Congress

Note: Wilson was a member of the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet

7. Revolving door. The top illegal lobbyist was former Rep. Heather Wilson of New Mexico. For a number of years, as Representative, she presumably was very friendly with Lockheed/Sandia of her area.

forbes.com/sites/charlest…
It seems possible from press accounts that on day one when she left office, they rewarded her by starting a $10,000/month lobbying deal.
8.“Most corrupt.” Those with a Washington memory recall that Heather Wilson was named one of the “Most Corrupt Members of Congress” by the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington an ethics group led by Melanie Sloan.
9. Attorneys Scandal. Heather Wilson won national fame – or infamy -- during the 2007 investigation into whether the Bush White House – especially Karl Rove – got rid of 7 U.S. Attorneys for political motivations.
She had been a board member for Karl Rove’s “American Crossroads.” One of the 7 was New Mexico federal prosecutor David Iglesias. Iglesias was indeed booted. This whole scandal caused a national wave of disgust at raw political interference with the course of justice.
10. Wilson’s incredible denials. In particular, Rove himself named Wilson as asking Rove to get rid of. Prosecutor Iglesias. And, Iglesias says Wilson pressured him directly to prosecute someone of the other party. And her explanation?
She denies doing anything but asking for an update, just as she denies wrongdoing in this current illegal lobbying scandal. Yeah.

Lockheed Martin has agreed to pay $4.7 million to settle charges that it illegally used government money to lobby top federal officials to extend its contract to run one of the country’s premier nuclear weapons labs.

Top execs for Lockheed Martin, who were being paid by the federal govt to run Sandia National Laboratories, ran a fierce campaign to lobby members of Congress & snr Obama admin officials for a 7yr extension of their contract, according to the DoJ
Lockheed execs, hired Heather Wilson to help them, didn’t just press people w/ influence to rehire them for a deal worth $2.4B/yr, as Energy Department Inspector General Gregory Friedman disclosed in an investigation last fall. They urged them to close the bidding to competition.
“The money allocated by Congress for the Sandia National Laboratories is designed to fund the important mission carried out by our national laboratories, not to lobby Congress for more funding,” said Principal DAAG Benjamin Mizer, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Division.
Mizer said the lab, a subsidiary of Lockheed, allegedly used federal money to lobby Congress and other federal officials from 2008 and 2012, “to receive a non-competitive extension” of its contract in violation of federal law.
Sandia National Laboratories, said the lab “has agreed to settle with the DoJ to put the matter behind us, take action on what we learned and focus on our important national security mission.”

Lockheed has contracted with the Energy Department to run Sandia since 1993.

I wonder if former Governor of New Mexico, former Secretary of Energy, former New Mexico congressman Bill Richardson's name is under any of those redactions

In 1996, the Journal reported Wilson, then head of the New Mexico Department of Children, Youth and Families, ordered a file on her husband, Jay Hone, and his role as a foster parent to be moved from a warehouse to the CYFD offices

web.archive.org/web/2016102712…
Hone, a longtime youth mentor, was named in a 1993 Albuquerque Police Department report involving him and a male who was then 16 years old. Hone was not arrested or charged with any crime, and a subsequent CYFD investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing.
Wilson, in the 1996 story, said she did not want a file with personal information about her family available to department employees and denied opening the file or taking it out of the department offices.

Joffe:
"there are only two shareholders in Genuity, me and Bechtel, both of whom know exactly what Jon [Postel] could and couldn't do"

Bechtel knew all about Postel...

Joffe:
"Bechtel never really had to make a choice about whether Jon [Postel] joined the board or an advisory board. I nominated him to the board as one of *my* representatives. They didn't know Jon [Postel] from a hitchiker before this."

... but Bechtel knew nothing about Postel
[Bechtel was buying 75% Joffe's ISP in 1995 and knew nothing about who Jon Postel was?]

Joffe:

Joffe:
"I wanted someone clueful to help me guide Genuity along a *good* path, and away from the dark side (obviously I passed on asking you). I think I can proudly say that Genuity has been an exemplary internet citizen (I, of course, may not have been)"
Sounds like Gordon Cook, of the Cook Report on Internet Protocol, struck a nerve

Could we inject some content in this discussion?
For example, how much did you [Joffe] and Bechtel settle for on the sale to BBN/GTE? :-)

John Curran:
Bigger than a breadbox, smaller than an IXC...

When inventors James MacIntyre and David Scherer founded Visual Sciences Inc. in 2000, doing work for the CIA was not in their plans.

web.archive.org/web/2020110109…
The two developed software to monitor and graphically display patterns in complex info systems. A bank marketing executive using the software could determine which online customers were clicking on links to info about home equity loans, then display info about those customers.
It takes no great leap of imagination to envision a CIA analyst using the software, connected into the right databases, to track terrorist activities. But it took In-Q-Tel to make that leap.

"Anyone know anything about John Durham?

He certainly doesn’t look like a pushover. And given that he’s taken on the FBI, he knows how to go after Federal agencies."

As special prosecutor, Durham has identified enough potential grand jury targets to become something of a full employment service for the defense bar. Defense lawyers, having belatedly reached the conclusion that his investigation is for real, are now scrambling to figure him out

New docs show the CIA destroyed nearly 100 tapes of terror interrogations, far more than has previously been acknowledged

The disclosure Monday comes as John Durham is wrapping up his investigation in the matter

nypost.com/2009/03/02/cia…
He had asked that the requests for information in the civil lawsuit be put on hold until he had completed his criminal investigation. Durham asked that he be given until the end of February to wrap up his work and has not asked for another extension.
“The CIA can now identify the number of videotapes that were destroyed,” said the letter by Acting U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin. “Ninety two videotapes were destroyed.”

As Mr. Obama prepares to leave the White House early next year, one of his legacies will be the office information technology upgrade that his staff has finally begun.

nytimes.com/2016/04/04/us/…
On Air Force One, administration officials sent emails over an air-to-ground Internet connection that was often no better than dial-up modems from the mid-1990s.
Part of the problem? Responsibility for WH technology has long been divvied up between four agencies, each with their own chief information officer: the National Security Council, the Executive Office of the President, the Secret Service and the White House Communications Agency
