1/ The importance of backers for blockchain gaming projects
Firstly, a GameFi project cannot be implemented without abundant capital. A powerful backer behind each project is an affirmation of the feasibility and sustainability of that project.

Next, a good backer will identify areas where the project needs help. It could be tokenomics of the project, governance, technical, or with an extensive network of partners, they can help the project get wider coverage in the media.

Above all, a great investment fund will help the project know what the primary challenge it is facing, thereby solving the problem together.

2/ Venture capital funds classification
In general, there are two ends of the spectrum for crypto VCs:

⚫️The first are authentic co-builders and long-term thinkers who are crypto-native. They are the ones that continue to build on their portfolio and maintain funding during bear markets.

⚫️The other end of the spectrum are VCs that only exist when the market is in a bull run. They lack a thesis, a vision, or a sense of conviction. They invest in short-vesting projects to extract value from the bull market.

3/ How do we rank VCs?
There are numerous methods for determining whether an investment fund is good or not. You can rely on ROI (how excellent are these investors’ returns on investment), how active they are, investment size, or their branding toward the community.

However, not every huge investment fund is suitable for a certain project. This is also dependent on what sector that fund usually invests in. A fund that invests in a large number of gaming projects is more likely to have greater experience in this field.

4.1/ Animoca Brands
Animoca Brands is a digital entertainment company that develops and publishes a wide range of mobile games, including The Sandbox, Crazy Kings, and Crazy Defense Heroes, using blockchain, gamification, and artificial intelligence technology.

Animoca Brands has raised $604.5 million in 19 rounds of investment. The number of projects that the fund invests in is more than 130 projects in many fields, including many popular projects such as Axie Efinity, Splinterlands, GuildFi, Ancient8, Avocado Guild, Yield Guild Game.

4.2/ Bitkraft Ventures
BITKRAFT Ventures was founded in 2015 by German serial entrepreneur, Jens Hilgers. The team covers video games and esports investments.

BITKRAFT Ventures has raised $247.6 million in three funds, the most recent of which is the BITKRAFT Ventures Token Fund for blockchain game investments, which raised $75 million. Bitkraft is the lead investor for famous projects such as Immutable and Yield Guild Game.

4.3/ Hashed
Hashed, based in San Francisco and Seoul, is the largest crypto asset fund and community builder in South Korea.

Hashed has raised $320 million in two funds, the most recent of which being Hashed Venture Fund II. This fund was announced on December 1, 2021, and it raised $200 million. Hashed is the lead investor for many game-related projects like Sipher, Ancient8, and GuildFi.

4.4/ Yield Guild Games
Yield Guild Games (YGG) is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) dedicated to investing in non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which are utilized in virtual worlds and blockchain-based games.

YGG has raised a total of $22.4M in funding over four rounds, and has made 20 investments in 2021. Most of them are blockchain gaming projects such as Cyball, StarSharks, Sipher, etc.

@DefendersRise is a tower defense game with RPG elements thrown in. The game's primary objectives are to arrange the formation, upgrade heroes, and keep enemies from destroying the base.

@PlayElumia is an action MMORPG in which players can lead their character through numerous dungeons to collect experience and levels, resources. The project, with the participation of the cult backer Animoca Brands, promises to be a potential game in 2022.
