SEFF remembers Andrew Johnston, 17, Protestant mechanic from the Silverstream area who was working at a video library on 17/2/92 when 2 masked IPLO gunmen entered at 8:00pm & shot him. Andrew was hit several times & died immediately.

..escaped injury.

Andrew was a community worker for the Elim Pentecostal Church. He was an only son & had given up a job as a motor mechanic to assume a job in a jewellery shop.

Andrew was murdered by the IPLO who said it "would not stand by & see nationalists gunned down ..

..in the street".

The IPLO also made numerous unsubstantiated allegations regarding the video shop. The inquest was told that Andrew had been shot several times in the chest. His mother said that she had begged Andrew, to give up his part-time job at the shop because there ...

..had been an earlier shooting there.

The coroner said that Andrew was "in the wrong place at the wrong time. It would appear the IPLO would have been satisfied with the murder of anyone working in the shop. It was just Andrew’s bad luck that person was him".

..was wrong, Andrew was in the right place at the right time where he'd every right to be, working to earn money. It was terrorists who'd no right to be where they were, & to shed innocent blood.
