I am talking there are colleges I’ve seen tell a student to retake the ACT because they were 1-2 points off or the score was a 1180 and they want 1200. Students who are NCAA eligible but go until score met

To be clear not everyone does this. I’ve had coaches say “close enough” and I had coaches ask “you think (athlete) is academically ready, worried about the score” and had them realize this score isn’t a reflection of their academic ability

I’ve always seen NCAA eligibility as the basement floor but college scholarships requirements as the ceiling

I’ve known students who were points off and were either denied or had to meet a new round of barriers just to be accepted with scholarship

I’ve seen some have scholarships taken and they were offered a walk on, no scholarship spot, by their college due to lower scores

never made sense to me because a 1180 and a 1200 is no different. But it can be the end of a NCAA scholarship dream

So to realize the benefits of NCAA going test optional we need colleges not add their own SAT and ACT requirement to be eligible for a scholarship

Many of them are headed in this direction and it’s a couple outliers but it’s devastating when a student hits an outlier
