1) Dr. S K Burman was born in 1856, in a Khatri family that relocated from Punjab to Kolkata in the mid-1880s.
2) He was an Ayurvedic expert and formulated Ayurvedic medicines for diseases like cholera, plague, and malaria.
3) Being a certified doctor, he started selling his medicines on a bicycle in Bengal.
4) His mission was to provide an effective and affordable cure for ordinary people in far-flung villages.
5) Soon his medicines got popular, and he came to be known as a trusted “Daktar” or Doctor who provide natural and effective cures.
6) This led to the brand name “Da-bur” derived from the combination of Devnagri rendition of “Daktar Burman”.
7) The Burman family is has been managing Dabur for the past six generations.
8) Dr. Burman set up Dabur in 1884 with a mission to produce and dispense Ayurvedic medicines and reach out to people who had no access to proper treatment in those days.
9) In 1896 their first manufacturing plant was set up to produce medicines in bulk.
10) Dr. Burman's consistent efforts resulted in the company growing from a fledgling medicine manufacturer in a small Calcutta house to a household name that represents trust and reliability.
11) In 1919, the company’s first R&D center was established by Burman's son C.L. Burman.
12) Along with two new manufacturing units, Dabur extended its sphere to Bihar and the Northeast in 1920.

32) Hobi Kozmetik Group a Turkey-based personal care brand was acquired by Dabur in 2010, making it their first international acquisition.
33) In 2012, the company reached the $1 billion mark in turnover.
34) Today, Dabur India offers products in sectors ranging from hair & skincare to packaged foods and has a market cap of almost Rs 1 Lac crore.
35) The Burman family together holds ~ 67% shares of the company.
36) Currently, Amit Burman and Mohit Burman from the fifth generation of the family serve as chairman and vice-chairman, respectively, of Dabur India Ltd.
