Thread (1/5)

The Government’s Health & Care Bill is now in the House of Lords.

If we allow it to pass without amendment, the impact on us all will be grave. But it is not too late to de-fang the Bill.

Please write to your MP: we have made it easy for you (see last Tweet).

The Bill would allow Ministers to migrate our healthcare system to something much more like the US, where you might find yourself having to pay:

Blood test: $100-$300
Giving birth: $9,000-17,000
Breast cancer $15,000-300,000
Etc, etc

The government denies all this. But not very plausibly as the article shows…

Just as they deny any risk of privatisation…

Working with others like @GOV2UK , @nurses_united , @OpenBritainHQ , @DMinghella and @NHAparty, we are launching a major campaign to de-fang the Bill.

You can help here: nhs2.uk by making sure your MP supports the Lords’ amendments.
PS For those opposed to forcing through amendments on the grounds that they want to scrap the Bill -- be careful: the chances of scrapping it are vanishingly small -- by not supporting amendments, you are supporting the Tories.

Thread (1/9)
This thread looks at the rather dismal list of candidates to succeed Johnson.
(2/9)
Sunak seems to be the ‘favourite,’ but he would be worse than Johnson for several reasons.

First, he played a key role in making sure that our COVID response was among the most damaging – both to health and to the economy – in the world.

(3/9)
Not only did he invent the COVID-enabling ‘Eat out to Help Out’ scheme, he actively involved maverick scientists in order to delay taking action against COVID.

Thread (1/10)
The Conservatives are still repeating the increasingly ludicrous claim that they have been "getting the big calls right."

As this thread shows, nothing could be further from the truth.
(2/10)
The biggest calls have been on the economy, on Brexit, on COVID and on the rule of law.

They have failed on every one.
(3/10)
On Brexit, they chose to pursue a ‘hard Brexit’ against all advice and with no mandate…

Three more reasons to get #JohnsonOut8 as quickly as possible
1. He has absolutely no remorse and genuinely believes he should be considered above the law

2. "Johnson is happy to sacrifice anyone – his allies, his compatriots and even his own MPs – in order to further or salvage his own career."

When Johnson first put together his cabinet in 2019, I said,
