@YDanasmithdutra Metinvest needs to invest $20-30 billion in coming years to replace four coal-fired blast furnaces with new equipment to cut carbon emissions.
@YDanasmithdutra Sergey Kurchenko controls 70% of the economy in the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics. It exports anthracite coal to Russia for re-exporting to global markets. Ironically, the largest end market is Ukraine, which remains dependent on anthracite to produce electricity.
@YDanasmithdutra Russian businessman Yevgeny Yurchenko, successor to fugitive, Kurchenko, who made a fortune by being close to ex-President Viktor Yanukovych.

@YDanasmithdutra OJSC Svyazinvest was Russia's largest telecoms holding company. Based in Moscow, it was an entirely state-owned company until it was privatized in the late 1990s. In 2010, Yurchenko, resigned as CEO due to a conflict with the management of Rostelecom, a unit of Svyazinvest.
@YDanasmithdutra Ostchem owns a majority stake in Concern Stirol, a major Ukrainian mineral fertilizer producer located in Horlivka, Donetsk region. Dmitro Firtash, Semyon Mogilevich's Vienna-based front man, owns Group DF which owns Ostchem. groupdf.com/en/o-kompanii-…
