Exlnt question from @Mark_J_Harper, following up on @hilarybennmp.
Will the UK impose further sanctions, even if Putin only limits his invasion to Donbass regions?

.@BorisJohnson: "It’s inevitable that we will be coming forward with a much bigger package of sanctions"
The PM's answer was carefully crafted tho. Full quote: "I think it is inevitable, given what is happening in Ukraine and on the borders of Ukraine, that we will be coming forward with a much bigger package of sanctions."
In answer to @LaylaMoran, the PM says it's inevitable that Putin will 'continue' with his invasion. Wonder if that means 'continue' to stay in Donbass or 'continue' by invading other parts of the country?
Clive Betts and @tobyperkinsmp pushed him once more, and @BorisJohnson replied that "the unity of the west is the priority".
That sounded like the next round of UK sanctions will not depend on Putin invading rest of Ukraine, more that it's Q of coordination with allies

Sir Patrick Vallance was right: Covid feeds off inequality and drives inequality.

.@BorisJohnson's 'moment of pride' in lifting restrictions is overshadowed by a decade of shame on the growing health gap between rich and poor

Tonight's #WaughOnPolitics
inews.co.uk/opinion/boris-…
A new report this month by the University of Manchester found that England’s North West, North East and West Midlands had all suffered disproportionately more deaths from Covid than richer areas. Yes, that's the Red Wall.
inews.co.uk/opinion/boris-…
Even before the pandemic, 10 years of austerity had begun to bite. Public health expert Sir Michael Marmot found that life expectancy in the UK had stalled for the first time in a century, and for poorer women it had actually gone backwards.

Yep, in answer to @EdwardJDavey, the PM says it's "inconceivable that major international football tournaments could take place in Russia"
Chelsea could of course be one of the teams in the final.
But there's some confusion about whether its owner Roman Abramovich is now subject to UK sanctions. @BorisJohnson says Abramovich is, but @RhonddaBryant tells MPs he doesn't think that's the case.
And now @NadineDorries confirms she's going to press for Champions League final to be moved from St Petersburg.

.@BorisJohnson just said the UK should be more like Germany, where workers don't have a "habit of going into work when not well"

Key comparison:
- Statutory sick pay in Germany 50% pay for 84 weeks.
- Statutory sick pay in UK is £96.35 per week for 28 weeks.
And that's a maximum of 84 weeks.
For the first 6 weeks, a German employee is usually entitled to 100% of their salary.

.@BorisJohnson's plan to scrap free NHS prescriptions for 60- to 65-year-olds isn't headline TV news.

But as opposition mobilises it feels like another Govt U-turn is inevitable.

inews.co.uk/opinion/scrapp…
Buried in govt doct is this: over-60s will be handed penalty notices (fines of upto £100) if they fail to realise their medicines are no longer free.

Imagine the optics if the PM *doesnt'* get a penalty notice for #Partygate, yet over-60s get penalty notices for NHS cutbacks🤷‍♂️ Image
The 'grey vote' more broadly is feeling the pinch with
- 1st real terms state pension cut for decades
- inflation that hits them harder as they hv fixed incomes
- broken Tory manifesto pledge to maintain 'triple lock'

.@BorisJohnson's Savile smear confirmed the moral vacuum at the heart of his 'partygate' premiership.

Tonight's #WaughOnPolitics is in your inbox

inews.co.uk/opinion/boris-…
As everyone seems to be quitting No.10 tonight, will the last person left switch out the lights?
Tonight's #WaughOnPolitics also includes how a Tory MP claimed 'social media' in her town raised the Savile smear. "Go on, look online."

Plus, how Jacob Rees-Mogg misused the 'Crichel Down principle' of ministerial responsibility. (One for the anoraks)
