Breakdown on the movie Us
Jordan Peele's 2nd movie after Get Out

So much esoteric meaning & symbolism this movie gets it's own thread

Brief summary before breakdown:

A young girl meets her doppelganger/twin who switches roles with her & grows up to have a family & kids. Doppelgangers of every person come up from their underground residence to try to kill their twin & replace them

The movie starts with this ominous message, stating theres tons of underground tunnels in the US, many with no known purpose

Theres many theories about underground tunnels/bases, so this set the tone from the start

Then a TV is showing a news report

Its warning of a dangerous storm

Warning of a storm is one of the most common programming examples

A commercial for a 1980s event called Hands Across America comes on

It was meant to raise money for charity & create unity by having people hold hands to create a chain across America

The commercial says the link will stretch from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Twin Towers

The movie repeatedly uses the number 11

The way US is written looks like 911

The number 11 & the number 8 are the 2 numbers most commonly associated with portals

The number 11 represents the masonic twin pillars

The number is also symmetrical, like a mirror/parallel dimension

9-11 might be the most popular case of numerology usage

With all the connections to the no. 11 pointed out by people like Gary the #s Guy

The towers look like an 11, they were 110 stories tall, NY is the 11th state, New York City= 11 letters

Bush Sr. 1st mentioned the NWO on 9-11-90, 11 years before 9-11-01

Al-Qaeda was founded on Aug 11th + had other attacks on the 11th

Bin Laden "died" on an 11 day in 2011

The main character Adelaide, Addy, goes to the boardwalk with her parents

Her dad wins her a prize, she chooses prize number 11. Its next to a Black Flag T shirt (comes up later), a pentagram design, + spiral shape as well

The prize is a Michael Jackson Thriller t shirt

Thriller is about demon possession & even has an occult content disclaimer to start the video

"Theres demons closing in on every side, They will possess you"

"Creatures crawl in search of blood to terrorize y'alls neighborhood, and whosoever shall be found without the soul for getting down, must stand and face the Hounds of Hell and rot inside a corpse shell"

The video shows wearwolves, monsters, zombies etc and some are shown coming up from underground

Just like the doppelganger twins in Us

At the end of the Thriller video MJ gives a look to the camera to show that he is secretly not back to being a regular human

In Us you dont find out that Addy had been replaced by her twin until she gives an eerie look to her son, then they cut to a flashback

There seems to be multiple reasons the doppelgangers wear red outfits

A Thriller connection could be 1

When Addy reemerges after having her position switched she is wearing a glove, MJ is known for wearing gloves

Addys dad loses track of her & she wanders off on her own

She sees a homeless man holding a Jeremiah 11:11 sign

"I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them"

Foreshadowing what's to come

Addy is eating an apple then walks into a house of mirrors

It says Shaman's Vision Quest Find Yourself

The apple likely represents the forbidden fruit that opens ones eyes giving them the knowledge of good & evil

A belief is the forbidden fruit represents psychedelics that help people open their 3rd eye + acquire knowledge

People have transformative spiritual experiences/visions with the guidance of a shaman

Addy is a young child & shes alone, her experience does not go well

Maybe she wasnt prepared for this moment, which is possibly why the Book of Genesis warns against it

Carl Jung said to "beware of unearned wisdom"

If you're trying to learn how to swim you dont dive straight in the deep end

You practice in the shallow until you're ready for the deep end

The mirror house has a buck, Get Out shows a deer dying & deer antlers used as a weapon to kill the father

A character in Us has antlers tattooed on his arm

Theologyed on YouTube connected these symbols with a specific Buck Moon eclipse

His theory was that the titles Get Out & Us were a warning to get out of the United States (by this eclipse)

The doppelgangers do specifically call themselves Americans

You can watch his videos to hear his theory

We know that eclipses are often accompanied by demonic rituals

There is an owl on the outside & on the inside of the Vision Quest

This is what I found to be the most important part of the movie here

The Vision Quest plays an audio narration of the Hopi creation story

Theres many aspects from the Hopi story & mythology present in this movie

Spider woman/spider grandmother helped create the world

Spider Woman is the mother goddess, @NickHintonn covered this in a thread

@NickHintonn Spider woman created twins (twins again) sent to each pole to keep the Earth rotating properly

When there was chaos on Earth the twins left the poles & Earth spun around crazily & rolled over twice. Mountains plunged into the seas and cold lifeless space froze the world into ice

This all sounds like a pole shift, which causes a weakening in the magnetic field

The magnetic fields shape has been compared to depictions of the spider in mythology & the nazca lines as well

Meaning the spider crawling up the spout to be washed back down is like the doppelgangers coming up out the tunnels

In mythology there is the owl-spider link, Minerva the owl turns Arachne, the weaver, into a spider

Bohemian Grove Owl sign says "Weaving Spiders Come Not Here"

@NickHintonn The Hopis were 1 of many cultures who believed people came up into this world from a lower world

Some believe these cave/tunnel entrances can still be found today

They believed the Grand Canyon was also a gate to the afterlife

@NickHintonn The twin that was sent to the South Pole was told to send out sound to all the vibratory centers along Earth's axis from pole to pole

There came a "time of red light" when this door became closed until death

@NickHintonn This is either the crown or 3rd eye chakra, someone more familiar might know

The door closing during the time of red light is symbolic because the lowest chakra is red, & again that is the color of the doppelgangers outfits

Her twin 1st appears as a reflection in the mirror

I've talked about how mirrors are portals/tools for clairvoyance

@NickHintonn The 4th vibratory center is the heart

They believed if one felt the good of life & was true to themself they had 1 heart

If one permitted evil feelings to enter they had 2 hearts

I believe this is the basis behind the doppelgangers & the entire movie

@NickHintonn The doppelgangers eventually reveal they are the "shadow" of each person

Ones shadow is an existing concept in the world of psychology

@NickHintonn The shadow is "an unconscious aspect of the personality that the conscious ego does not identify in itself, or the entirety of the unconscious; that is, everything of which a person is not fully conscious. In short the shadow is the unknown side."

@NickHintonn According the Jung "the shadow can include everything outside the light of consciousness and may be positive or negative. Because one tends to reject or remain ignorant of the least desirable aspects of one's personality, the shadow is perceived to be largely negative.

@NickHintonn There are however, positive aspects that may also remain hidden in one's shadow (especially in people with low self esteem, anxiety, and false beliefs).

Everyone carries a shadow, the less it is embodied in the individuals conscious life, the blacker and denser it is."

Likely why the movie poster showed a mask, & Addys son + his shadow both wore masks

He said it should be a goal to merge the shadow with the conscious mind

@NickHintonn There was a Hopi ceremony in which the removal of a mask signified the end of this world

They believed there were different cycles of civilization, ended/renewed by cataclysm

They believe we are in the 4th age right now heading toward the 5th

@NickHintonn This is summarized in a depiction known as Prophecy Rock

The interpretation is the 2 seperate timelines show us living right & avoiding a cataclysm vs. us living wrong and facing one

@NickHintonn They believed the ones who lived right got to hide in those tunnels and caves and come back out after the cataclysm, maybe that is what the 2 seperate lines dictate

@NickHintonn The next scene before it jumps to present day is a room of caged rabbits

There are 11 rows of rabbits

(Forgot to add the news channel in the beginning was Cal News 11)

Rabbits are also commonly linked to portals, theres 5+ rabbit references in Us

@NickHintonn Addy, technically her shadow self, is now an adult and is on vacation with her husband and 2 kids

Against her wishes they go to the beach where she came up out of the tunnel

@NickHintonn On the way there they ride by an ambulance taking away the deceased homeless man still holding the same Jeremiah 11:11 sign

The license plate on the ambulance adds up 11

@NickHintonn As a song plays in the car, Addy tries to snap along with it, but she is noticeably off beat

Showing that since she is a shadow, she is not attuned to the universal vibration

@NickHintonn Their daughter, Zorra, randomly asks "Did you know there's flouride in the water that the government uses to control our minds?" Nobody replies

Shes says "I forgot, nobody cares about the end of the world."

@NickHintonn This statements important for a few reasons

It shows a way that they try to keep us cut off from God, clarifying our pineal gland, similar to the closing of the open door in Hopi mythology

A consequence of this- we have shadows that we fail to acknowledge

@NickHintonn My portal programming thread broke down the foreshadowing of demonic portals being opened for end times purposes

This movie could fit in that category, now multiple apocalyptic hints

She got the flouride stare for literally bringing up flouride & the end of the world 😂

They have TWIN daughters, one wearing a Black Flag Tshirt

With their logo, 4 bars that resemble 11:11

@NickHintonn A red frisbee with a star lands perfectly over a blue circle on a beach towel, it's so improbable that Addy is perplexed by it

The Hopis believed a blue star would signal the end times & a red star would emit a purifying light assisting us spiritually

@NickHintonn In the Us context it could correlate with the red shadows coming up & overtaking their counterpart

Also fits the red vs blue chakra color dichotomy the entertainment world religiously uses

@NickHintonn Their son, Jason, walks off on his own to go to the bathroom and passes the same house of mirrors

It now has a different theme, it is called Merlin's Forrest

Merlin is a magician from the story of King Arthur

@NickHintonn Jason loves magic and attempts several tricks throughout the movie

Merlin was said to have his powers because he was half demon half human

Jason's mother is a shadow, so he is half human & half shadow

@NickHintonn A commonality is the place is still forrest themed

The forrest in the story of King Arthur was enchanted

I've been finding many links with forrests & portals or being enchanted/haunted etc.

@NickHintonn The Bible & many spiritual texts talk of one choosing to go into the forrest to find themself, find God, seek spiritual assistance, etc

@NickHintonn Addy was extremely worried & protective, she freaks out makes a scene chases after him then they all decide to leave the beach

She makes Jason tell her why he shouldn't run off, he says because I could get attacked by terrorists or perverts

@NickHintonn She tells him that's right, giving the impression this is something she is constantly drilling into his brain

The lesson here being that were so focused on external threats, when the problems to be focused on in this movie & life are our own thoughts/feelings

@NickHintonn Gabe is watching a baseball game on TV, it's the Minnesota Twins & they're tied 11-11 in the 7th inning

Addy finds a drawing that Jason made, it's of the shadow of the homeless person who he saw when he was at the beach

@NickHintonn This puts her in a panic, especially when she turns and sees 11:11 on the clock

For the 1st time she tells Gabe of her story with her look alike, while still hiding the fact she is a shadow herself

@NickHintonn She tells Gabe that shes been noticing signs, coincidences, synchronicities

And she feels her shadow is coming after her, & that shes getting closer

Many say signs + synchronicities are Gods/the universes way of sending us a message, confirming were on the right/wrong path

@NickHintonn The shadow family does show up and breaks in their house

This is when Red (original Addy) explains they are the shadows, they are tethered to them & whatever they do, except they experience the worse version

@NickHintonn When the real family got soft toys for Christmas the shadows got something sharp + dangerous. When they had a nice warm meal, the shadows had to eat cold raw rabbit meat. When Addy fell in love with Gabe, Red had to marry Gabes shadow even if she didnt love him

@NickHintonn Their goal now was to untether themselves, to make this point Red used scissors to cut the head off a stuffed rabbit

She slams Addys head on the glass table creating a reflection with visible cracks, signaling the untethering/no more need for the portals

@NickHintonn I noticed that even tho all the true shadows cant speak

They seem to be opposites of their real self just based on actions, behavior, + facial expressions

@NickHintonn Jason is young sweet innocent & afraid

His shadow appears the most detached, crawling on all 4s and growling like a dog

He was born in fire and has burn marks all over his face

@NickHintonn Zorras in her angry stubborn sarcastic teenage phase

She always has earbuds in looking at her phone not talking, she wants to quit track which was her passion

Her shadow is always smiling & enjoys the chase + killing a random guy on the street, she smiles/laughs as shes killed

@NickHintonn Gabe is happy goofy confident even in his corny dad jokes

His shadow is always frowning + looking down

@NickHintonn The movie makes a case for nurture over nature, because the shadow that is now Addy shows typical emotions and is now scared of the shadows & protective over her family

@NickHintonn Red, the real Addy, is so broken she just wants to kill & get her vengeance. Shes angry, envious, and bitter

She says she questioned why she had to live that way until she realized that is was just God testing her

@NickHintonn The names of the characters were all chosen with deeper meaning

Red: I've given multiple explanations for
Adelaide: city in Australia (the down under)

Abraham: Gabes shadow, both biblical names. Abraham is faithful to God, in Us Abraham does whatever Red says

@NickHintonn Zorra: the Slavic personification of dawn, when the world goes from dark to light
Umbrae: her shadow, also means shadow, usually used for eclipses

@NickHintonn Jason: Jasons shadow wears a Jason Vorhees type mask
Pluto: his shadow is named after the God of the underworld

Ps. Jason's mask is a werewolf, probably another Thriller connection

@NickHintonn A Hopi deity called Masauwu is the master of the 4th & 5th worlds that were in/entering

He was described as wearing a hideous mask

@NickHintonn The Tyler family they meet at the beach was created to show what happens when we prioritize the wrong things in life

The dad is boastful and shames Gabe for his possessions

@NickHintonn The mom is drinking wine and magazine shopping while at the beach

She admits to fantasizing about killing her husband then shows off her plastic surgery, giving off gold digger vibes

@NickHintonn Their daughters are snarky and judgemental, they judge Jason for digging a tunnel in the sand (symbolic)

& are mad at Zorra when she doesnt want to swim

@NickHintonn When the Tyler family is confronted by their shadows they are killed instantly

They were so spiritually detached they stood no chance.. against themselves

When they're killed Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys is playing, if they had good vibrations they could've survived

@NickHintonn After Good Vibrations, Fuck tha Police by NWA comes on and you hear Ice Cube "Fuck the police coming straight from the underground"

Underground like the shadows
Theologyed connects this with the riots & his Get Out the US theory

@NickHintonn Addys family wasnt perfect, for example Gabe was jealous of the Tyler's car and boat & bought a cheap broken boat just to try to keep up

But they weren't as controlled by social constructs and therefore defeated their shadows (except Addy but she was young + alone)

@NickHintonn Jason actually defeats his shadow by understanding them on a higher level

He realizes since they mirror his movement, he could just walk backwards when his shadow was standing in front of a car on fire

@NickHintonn When he does this he makes a crucifix pose, symbolizing that he is sacrificing himself, because his shadow has the DNA of his non shadow mother

I also talk about how "Kids See Ghosts" more because they're more in tune & less brainwashed

@NickHintonn As he does this Red grabs him and takes him underground

Addy chases after, then Red gives a more in depth breakdown on the shadows

@NickHintonn She says the government created the shadows to control the ones above, like puppets

But they realized they couldnt clone the soul, so there was 1 soul split between 2 bodies

So they gave up on the experiment

@NickHintonn Addy then kills Red and frees Jason, but Jason gives her a look like he suspects something

All the rabbits are free now as well & Jason takes one with him, I've heard Peele give multiple explanations behind their meaning

@NickHintonn He said they represent duality because they're cute & small but they still have a wild "sociopathic" look in their eyes

He also said Easter, without going in depth. The easter bunny represents birth/rebirth because of it's high fertility rate

@NickHintonn The underground tunnels in this movie could represent the metaphysical abyss/aether/underworld I covered in the portal programming thread

Confronting ones shadow is a major part of the spiritual rebirth process

@NickHintonn Crowley said the "magician" had to cross the abyss to be spiritually reborn

Recall Merlin & Jason's love for magic

Crowley talked about gazing in the mirror to go within oneself

Rabbits were also one of the 1st animals to be cloned (maybe they were tested on)

Their high fertility rate could've made them a cheap option to feed the clones

Alice in Wonderland: Portal/rabbit

Freddy Krueger: burned face like Pluto

CHUD: humanoid monsters + govt experiments on people

Right Stuff: govt experiments on people

Goonies: Underground tunnels

The govt experiments on ppl are definitely reinforced here

@NickHintonn I've been trying to decipher the cloning angle and I haven't come to a firm conclusion

It could just be the movies way of bringing figurative shadows into a physical form

And a metaphor for the govt experimenting on us in other ways (ex. Flouride)

@NickHintonn But cloning is definitely real & the movie went out of it's way to talk about the real life underground tunnels

I wouldn't be surprised if the govt actually did try to clone ppl to alter the clones DNA/mind, in turn controlling the original person as well

@NickHintonn But even if this did/is happening I still feel confident theres a lot of figurative meaning here, with the Hopi mythology and the 2 hearts

@NickHintonn With all the biblical references let's think about it from this angle too

James 1:8 "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

Jesus states you have to be born twice to enter the Kingdom of God

@NickHintonn Those who dont experience the 2nd birth, the spiritual birth, suffer the 2nd death that the Bible mentions

Those who are one with their higher self/soul & present conscious mind die but their soul lives on

@NickHintonn To clarify this, everyone's physical body dies, but if your soul/thinking self die also that is the 2nd death you experience

@NickHintonn In conclusion I just have to compare this to Get Out, Peele admitted they are connected

The Sunken Place in Get Out is about our inability to properly process fear, trauma, anxiety, our problems & it keeps us trapped in the lower state of consciousness

@NickHintonn Society knows this & programs/hypnotizes us trapping us in this frequency of fear and doubt

That's why they literally use hypnosis in Get Out, & they just ask him to think about his past trauma & that's all it took

@NickHintonn Us is about how we never even take the time to think our true feelings and thoughts because were so distracted & prioritizing the wrong things
