When you consider the Portland media environment, it is amazing the city is as liberal/progressive as it is. The Oregonian is now owned by out-of-state rightwingers who have laid off most staff and offer a 4/times a week tabloid. It's a joke. But when it was a real daily, it was
fiercely right-wing and Catholic. Bill Clinton was the first Democrat they ever endorsed for pres in over 100 years. They refused to run ads for condoms, even after HIV transmission was understood
They knew about Packwood and still endorsed him and kept the scandal secret until AFTER the election. They knew about Roger Meier investing public money for a hostile takeover of a Meier & Frank competitor. They his this for well over a year - it came out in WSJ & NYT.
The supposed alternative is the Portland Tribune started by a religious conservative fanatic who makes the Bibleman superhero series among other things. It was supposed to be an alternative to what he called the liberal Oregonian. lol
It's a better paper than the O but not great
The other big alternative is Willamette Week owned by someone who is an actual neoliberal in love with privatizing. He's good on gay rights, choice, etc. but anything that might touch his pocketbook & he is against it. He also is fond of strongman types. His wife is the AG
Then there is the Portland Mercury which should be the niche dance/music oriented paper but which by virture of not being the other three, is one of the more reliable and honest papers. It doesn't do enough political reporting, but it doesn't lie or cover up
There are several neighborhood papers and they are not all just ads for cafes, accountants, and cannabis shops. For example, the NW Examiner drive.google.com/file/d/1vH1U9s…
I forgot the Portland Alliance - an all volunteer paper that seems to have run out of steam. theportlandalliance.org
One of the best papers is Street Roots, put out by Portland unhoused people. They sell the paper as well, a source of income. streetroots.org
The Portland Observer - a Black paper - gives a fair and more thorough story on the shooting because it isn't the Oregonian portlandobserver.com/news/2022/feb/…
Then there is The Skanner - a more frequently up-to-date newspaper online and the one that is at the laundromat I go to. Also a Black paper. theskanner.com
Then there is The Asian Reporter which is usually more cultural and business-oriented. People of Asian heritage were until recently the largest minoritized group in Portland, but are poorly served by newspapers. asianreporter.com

It may be frivolous to rant about #RHOSLC when the world is going to hell in a handbasket, but here goes...
Yes, Mary has no time at all for Jennie. She has been rude to her and said several bigoted things right to her face, but...
don't you think she read Jennie's FB posts?
Meredith Marks has made Jen liking certain comments about her son into a two-season storyline, yet says she has never read Jennie's Facebook posts?
She hired a detective to investigate her colleagues but never read Jennie's posts?
Liar
Heather and Whitney parse every act and every word people do and say for signifiers. Listening to them is like listening to grad students applying Derrida to "Practical Cats."
A woman was killed and 4 other people were shot in a shooting in NE Portland on the 18th. This is the official police statement. The only true thing is the date and location.
Why did the police use the word homeowner? Is it to invoke castle doctrine and stand your ground rationales for shooting UNARMED traffic monitors? Stand Your Ground is responsible for an 11% increase in homicides. Do the Portland Police support it? jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…
The Portland Police like to blame the increase in gun violence on protests, but gun violence is increasing nationwide - and seems to be linked more to braggadocious vigilantism. More wannabe Rittenhouses.
1. Google "Blue Stack" and Jilani is the only person to use the term. There is a company that makes something that allows Android games to run on PCs. So he invents a term around which to conspiracize.
2. This person actually believes there major corporations and progressive activists are conspiring with folks in the media and in government to marginalize ideological opponents. Excuse me, but they are ideological opponents of each other.
Last year, 30 percent of home sales in majority Black neighborhoods were to investors, compared with 12 percent in other Zip codes, The Post’s analysis shows.
I remember when Jonathan Turley became "famous." It was during the whole Clinton impeachment brouhaha and he was the pro-impeachment legal expert arguing that Clinton need not have committed a crime. His expertise was environmental law
He argued against environmental regulations. He was not an impeachment or constitutional law expert, but he was the most important thing, available. Always available. And he said what they wanted to hear - impeach Clinton.
Of course, he was against impeaching Trump who actually committed crimes because moral malleability is the primary qualification of being a Republican lawyer. But seriously, I never thought he was as ignorant as he showed himself to be today.
Does anyone know why so many of the game ads are so awful. So I do "Happy Color" and solitaire on my Kindle & there are ads for Lily's Garden, Matchington Mansion, etc that show a pregnant woman being cheated on and going off to a dilapidated money pit in a snow storm with infant
Why would that scenario make me want to play the game? It really makes me want to break things. I will never play the Homescapes, Garden, etc games because of this shit.
Then there are the 4patriots ads for MREs to last x months...and they show them being cooked in the kitchen. The stove works but not the fridge?
Not to mention 4 patriots is such a polarizing name and you know they're insurrectionists who think treason is patriotism
